The AH64 Aircraft Mechanic I (Armament/Electrician) is primarily responsible for the maintenance of AH-64 helicopters, twin-engine attack aircraft with performing maintenance on instruments, weapons, landing gear, rotors, and many other helicopter components. Responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and troubleshooting any issues with the AH-64 systems/subsystems.

  • Diagnose, troubleshoot and repair malfunctions in AH-64 systems and components.
  • Maintain weapons components, fire control units, sighting elements, stabilization systems, avionics, electronic and mechanical devices.
  • Assist in troubleshooting malfunctions to aircraft structure, landing gear, flight surfaces and controls, anti-icing, pneudraulic, engines, auxiliary power unit, and ventilation and heating systems.
  •  Assist with conducting repairs, replacements, and rebuilds of aircraft structures and functional components including rigging, surface controls, plumbing and hydraulic units, using hand tools & power tools.
  • Assist in repair of worn or damaged components, such as alternators, fuel controls, fuel pumps, oil pumps, and engine mounted gearboxes, and compressor bleed valves using hand tools, gauges, and testing equipment and remove engines and gearboxes from aircraft. Perform preflight, thru-flight, and post-flight maintenance inspections, miscellaneous duties to service aircraft, including flushing crankcase, cleaning screens and filters, greasing moving parts, and checking brakes and jacking and towing of aircraft. This includes preventive maintenance, ensuring weapons systems and other electronics are functioning properly.
  • Read and interpret all aircraft instruments.
  • Perform wide variety of operational and preventive checks as well as maintain records on weapons and subsystems.
  • Use special test equipment and tools. Enter data in the maintenance records description of the work performed and verifies the work was performed satisfactorily.
  • Research the technical library and other applicable technical documentation to determine feasibility and method of repairing or replacing malfunctioning or damaged components.
  • Perform progressive, isochronal, phase, periodic, and other hourly or calendar inspections.
  • Perform full system checkouts on all aircraft systems.
  • Perform/Assist with aircraft servicing.
  • Document maintenance as per Quality Assurance (QA) and established regulatory requirements.
  • Comply with work order timekeeping system procedures.
  • Maintain high state of cleanliness and utilize a clean-as-you-go process when executing maintenance duties. Perform weekly Foreign Object Damage (FOD) walk-downs.
  • Maintain situational awareness, stay cognitive-focused, and mitigate risks.
  • Immediately report missing, lost, found, or unattended tools to the supervisor. Maintain and control tools IAW approved tool control policy and instructions. Inventory and inspect tools on a regular basis to identify when to replace worn or broken tools and report the need for replacement tools to the supervisor.
  • Clean work area as necessary, assuring all hazardous materials are properly stored; Handle hazardous materials, expired materials and wastes in accordance with applicable laws and regulatory requirements.
  • Comply with safety rules and procedures and perform work in a manner that enhances the safety of the work area. Promptly report accidents, injuries, safety, violations, and/or unsafe practices or procedures to supervisor.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

  • Valid and up-to-date A&P.
  • If no A&P, shall have Three (3) years aviation maintenance experience, two (2) years rotary wing aircraft experience, and two (2) years on the assigned MDS (AH64).
  • Minimum of Three (3) years of Armament maintenance experience specific to the AH-64 aircraft armament systems.
  • All experience must be within the Six (6) most recent years.
  • US Citizen Required.
  • Ability to obtain/maintain Security Clearance (NAC-I T1) Public Trust.
  • Tools are Required; must provide own shadowed/etched Tools and Toolbox.

Preferred Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Possess knowledge of basic computer skills sufficient to use Government computer system to access various technical references for airframe repairs and Government training requirements.
  • Possess a valid United States driver's license.
  • Ability to read and interpret data is required.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain applicable Government security clearance.

Physical Requirements/Working Environment

  • Capable of performing tasks that frequently require lifting, reaching, bending, walking, pulling, sitting, standing, crouching, stooping, kneeling, and stretching for prolonged periods of time.
  • Must be capable of performing tasks in cramped, awkward, and strained positions and/or climbing up and down ladders, work platforms, scaffolding, and aircraft structures.
  • Must be capable of carrying items up to 40 pounds or, for heavier objects, must seek assistance of other workers or weightlifting devices.
  • Must be capable of wearing personal protective equipment for required operations, as necessary.
  • May work in Aircraft maintenance hangar or outside.
  • Some domestic travel may be required.
