  • Independent Assurance - We provide risk based, proportionate, independent oversight and assurance of whether a project, process, system or product meets defined standards, requirements, or expectations.

  • Research & Technology - We identify, define and execute programmes of Research and Technology to support the continued safe operation of some of the world’s most complex engineering challenges, including the UK Naval Nuclear Propulsion Programme.

  • Independent Regulatory Support - A ring-fenced and independent organisation that supports regulators with assessments, audits, and guidance development.

About the Role


Our collaborative and forward thinking Independent Nuclear Assurance (INA) team provides independent safety assessment and advice in support of both in-service and future designs of Naval Reactor Plant (NRP). The team has detailed knowledge

and extensive experience of naval nuclear safety cases and works collaboratively with MoD and their Technical Authorities to ensure that Defence Nuclear Enterprise requirements are met.

We are seeking experienced personnel to work within this complex, constructive input and important programme. Specifically, we are looking to appoint a Assistant Chief Engineers to support and deputies for our existing Chief Engineers.

Responsibilities:

  • Using your knowledge and experience to provide trusted advice, Independent Nuclear Safety Assessment (INSA) and Independent Technical Assessment (ITA) in support of NRP.

  • Conducting work according to the best applicable safety, technical and regulatory standards, consistent with relevant good practice.

  • Representing INA at meetings with MoD and their contractors.

  • Co-ordinating output across a range of relevant specialist disciplines, providing MoD with impartial, trusted, balanced and proportionate assessments and advice.

  • Conducting all work in accordance with the INA Quality Assurance Programme.

  • Delivering to meet agreed programmes and budgets.

  • Working in accordance with business requirements for health, safety, environment, and security, as well as seeking continuous improvements in all aspects of work.


Here’s What You’ll Need 
 

  • Degree (Level 6, minimum requirement) in science or engineering.

  • Detailed design knowledge or operational experience of the Naval Reactor Plant through attainment of Naval Nuclear qualifications (eg NSSC, NPWSC or equivalent).

  • Knowledge of safety case structures and staged safety case campaigns (PSRs, PCSRs etc).

  • Familiarity with related documentation (NRPA NSMAs, DSA02-DNSR, ONR SAPs etc).

  • Clear and concise technical writing skills.

  • Effective communication skills, including the ability to discuss topics with subject matter experts from a range of other technical disciplines and provide professional, independent constructive input or advice.

  • This role will require security clearance; therefore, applicants should hold or be able to obtain security clearance in the UK.
