Summary/General Description Of Job:

The Body and Fender Mechanic repairs and refinishes automotive bodies. The incumbent examines damaged vehicles and estimates repair costs.

Essential Duties & Job Functions:

§ Repairs damaged bodies and body parts of vehicles such as automobiles, buses, and light and heavy trucks and equipment.

§ Repairs damaged fiberglass automobile bodies, replaces broken or pitted windshields and window glass in motor vehicles.

§ Examines damaged vehicles and estimates repair costs.

§ Removes upholstery, accessories, electrical and hydraulic window and seat operating equipment, and trim to gain access to vehicle body and fenders.

§ Places dolly block against surface of dented area and beats opposite surface with hammer to remove dents.

§ Fills depressions with appropriate material.

§ Removes excessively damaged fenders, panels, and grills, using wrenches and cutting torch, and attaches replacements by bolting or welding in position.

§ Straightens bent panels using hydraulic jack and pulling device.

§ Files, grinds, and sands repaired surfaces, using power tools and hand tools.

§ Refinishes repaired surface by painting with primer coat and sanding smooth.

§ Mixes matches and paints surfaces after performing body repair.

§ Performs other related duties as assigned.

May perform work in other classifications when incidental work is necessary to the accomplishment of the work assignment. Significant work in another job classification may be required if accompanied by any wage adjustments applicable.

§ The proper use of tools and equipment commonly used in the auto mechanic field.

§ Completing all mandated training requirements per government and management directives.

§ Timely and cost effective performance of duties.

§ Timely completion and accuracy of all departmental work.

§ Dealing with a variety of people in a professional, courteous manner in diversified situations.

§ Adherence to established company safety policies and good industrial and office safety practices.

§ Compliance with company Standard Operating Procedures and Personnel policies and procedures.

§ Having the ability to work well under pressure.

Job Requirements (Education, Experience, Professional Associations):

Mandatory

§ Four years experience in automobile body repair or equivalent in commercial or government repair work.

§ Must have full knowledge and ability to examine, estimate the cost, and complete the repairs of body damage, including finish painting.

§ Must have recent paint system experience.

§ Must have and maintain hand tools of the trade to perform the normal work of the classifications.

§ Must possess knowledge of specialized tools to perform repair functions.

§ Must possess valid Washington State driver's license with acceptable driving record. A Commercial Driver’s License may be required.

§ Must meet and maintain Company physical and security requirements, including respirator qualification, and clearance eligibility when required.

§ Must possess good communication skills for a service team environment.

§ Ability to successfully pass any background checks and/or drug testing required on the contract.

§ U.S. Citizenship.

Rate of Pay: $38.17/hour (Union position)
