About the Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Configuration Manager to join our growing engineering capability for a major new-build project for the UK defence industry. The successful candidate will join our existing engineering team based in our Reading (Winnersh) office.

Reporting directly to the project Senior Engineering Manager, you will be accountable for ensuring robust configuration management throughout the detailed design, procurement, construction and commissioning phases of the project.

You will build a close, collaborative working relationship with the engineering design team, developing a detailed knowledge of the facility design configuration at system level. You will develop and implement a robust Configuration Management Plan for the project, monitoring any emerging changes to the configuration baseline and ensuring effective assessment and implementation of configuration change.

This position will require regular attendance at the client’s operating sites near Reading, as well as our engineering design offices in Stockton-on-Tees. We are also willing to consider candidates who are happy to work a reduced 4-day working week, if they have the right skills and experience.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Producing and maintaining the project Configuration Management Plan; briefing the project team to ensure standardisation of robust configuration management processes across the project;
  • Oversight to ensure that configuration baseline records are maintained by the design engineering team;
  • Ensuring that configuration baseline information is developed and issued at the right time to support procurement and construction activities, in line with the project schedule;
  • Oversight to ensure change control is implemented for all configuration items and their configuration information; supporting configuration audits;
  • Leading and driving continuous improvement in Configuration Management best practice across the framework.


Essential Qualifications & Experience:

  • HND or degree qualified in a relevant engineering discipline, with a minimum of 15 years’ experience in industry;
  • Excellent working knowledge of Configuration Management in compliance with ISO 10007:2017;
  • Ability to work effectively as a team member liaising directly with clients and other cross-functional team members with excellent verbal and written communication and report-writing skills;
  • Ability to achieve a minimum UK ‘SC’ security clearance.
