We are seeking an Industrial Electrician to join our Fabrication and Calibration team in support of our Research Laboratory Support (RLS) contract with the U.S. EPA located in Research Triangle Park, NC.

The candidate will be responsible for the installation and maintenance of electrical systems in an industrial research facility in Durham, NC. This will include installing and wiring instrumentation; handling the electrical permitting process, from beginning to end; and working on a wide variety of projects and tasks.

Responsibilities include:

  • Installing, bending, and threading electrical conduit, both EMT and rigid.
  • Pulling wires and terminating conductors in disconnects, panel boards, control panels, motor starters, etc.
  • Installing, troubleshooting, repairing, replacing, and maintaining electrical motors and motor controllers including manual starters, push buttons, relays, control transformers, magnetic starters, and VFDs.
  • Working with both low voltage signal, control, and power circuits up to 480 volts. Both single- and three-phase.
  • Wiring control panels to UL specifications.
  • Reading manuals and operating various types of equipment needed to support research.


Minimum Qualifications:

The professional we seek will possess at least 5 years of industrial electrical experience, including plant maintenance operations and wiring control panels and instrumentation and a thorough knowledge of the National Electrical Code.

Education: Associate’s degree, trade school, or equivalent.

Required Skills:

  • Strong organizational and time management skills to coordinate service with multiple clients and maintain scheduled progress.
  • Basic skills in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word.
  • Ability to understand and interpret equipment operation manuals and operating procedures.
  • Ability to understand and follow instructions furnished in written, oral, schematic, or diagram form.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team setting.
  • Work habits to promote a clean workspace.
  • Safety focus to proactively engage in our safety culture and maintain a safe workplace.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • AA degree, trade school or equivalent with 10 years of industrial electrical experience including plant maintenance operations and wiring control panels and instrumentation. A thorough knowledge of the National Electrical Code. Installing, troubleshooting, maintaining, and repairing electrical power and electrical control systems in an industrial setting.


Skill Requirements:

  • Good working knowledge of fasteners and anchors and experience mounting electrical equipment such as boxes, disconnects, starters, control panels, etc to steel, concrete, sheetrock, and wood.
  • Fundamental understanding of the National Electrical code and how to locate applicable code articles to ensure the work is done in accordance with the current codes.
  • Experience reading and interpreting electrical schematics for troubleshooting and problem solving. Experience with basic programming of temperature controllers and variable-frequency drives (VFD).
  • Working knowledge of other trades and skills such as plumbing, fabrication, machining, welding, and basic shop operations in an industrial setting.
