Amentum is seeking a Crane Operator/Rigger Foreman to support a unique US Navy program on the island of Diego Garcia. The Crane Operator/Rigger Foreman will be responsible for overseeing crane operations and supervising rigging activities while ensuring all work is performed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with applicable safety, operations, and mission requirements. This position provides technical leadership and oversight to crane operators and rigging personnel and is responsible for ensuring proper lifting, rigging, inspection, and crane operating procedures are followed.

Job Responsibilities:

• Operate cranes in a safe and professional manner in accordance with NAVFAC P-307 and other standards, regulations, and procedures.
• Supervise, lead, and provide direction to rigging personnel during crane and lifting operations.
• Ensure all rigging activities are performed in compliance with NAVFAC P-307 guidelines and established safety requirements.
• Provide training, coaching, and oversight to riggers and other assigned personnel as required.
• Train and familiarize rigging personnel with proper crane hand signals and communication procedures as specified by NAVFAC P-307.
• Ensure effective communication between crane operators, riggers, signal persons, supervisors, and other personnel involved in lifting operations.
• Inspect rigging tools, slings, hardware, lifting devices, and related equipment to ensure they are in good working condition and meet applicable operational and safety standards.
• Identify and remove defective or unsafe rigging equipment from service.
• Prepare, review, and implement lift plans to ensure crane and rigging operations comply with safety, operational, and mission readiness requirements.
• Evaluate lifting conditions, loads, work areas, weather conditions, and other potential hazards before and during crane operations.
• Ensure proper rigging methods are used based on the type, weight, dimensions, and characteristics of the load.
• Monitor crane and rigging operations to ensure established procedures and safety requirements are consistently followed.
• Ensure personnel use appropriate personal protective equipment and follow all occupational health and safety requirements.
• Conduct and document routine inspections of cranes and related equipment.
• Perform or coordinate routine maintenance and servicing of cranes to support operational effectiveness and safety compliance.
• Identify, report, and assist in correcting equipment deficiencies, malfunctions, and unsafe conditions.
• Maintain required crane, rigging, inspection, maintenance, and operational documentation.
• Coordinate daily work activities and assign personnel based on operational requirements and workload.
• Monitor work progress and communicate operational concerns, delays, equipment issues, and safety concerns to appropriate management.
• Stop work when unsafe conditions or non-compliant practices are identified and ensure corrective action is taken before work resumes.
• Support emergency and mission critical lifting operations as required.
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned that are consistent with the nature and level of the position.

Required Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Experience operating cranes and performing rigging operations.
• Experience supervising, leading, or coordinating crane and rigging personnel preferred. Ability to perform crane and rigging duties safely and effectively in accordance with established procedures and standards.
• Training and certification in accordance with applicable NAVFAC P-307 standards for crane and rigging operations.
• Familiarity with crane hand signals and communication procedures as outlines in NAVFAC P-307.
• Must maintain all required crane operator, rigger, signal person, or other applicable certifications in accordance with assignment requirements.
• Ability to inspect rigging equipment and identify unsafe or defective components.
• Ability to understand and execute lift plans.
• Ability to read and understand technical documentation, operating procedures, safety requirements, and lift plans.
• Must be in possession of a valid passport and be able to travel internationally.
• Passport must be valid for a minimum of one (1) year or more at the time of hiring.
• Ability to obtain country-specific visas per the U.S. Department of State Foreign Clearance Guide.
• Ability to successfully pass contract medical requirements and maintain compliance throughout the duration of deployment.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization. 
• Must read, speak, and comprehend English to the extent that they can perform the contract requirements and comply with installation emergency procedures.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Prior experience working in an austere OCONUS (Outside the Continental United States) environment with a multi-national workforce
• A valid driver’s license to legally operate a motor vehicle.
• Extensive knowledge of NAVFAC P-307 requirements and best practices for crane operations and rigging.
• Previous supervisory or leadership experience in crane and rigging operations.

Working Environment

This position is located on Diego Garcia, British Indian Ocean Territory (BIOT), a remote overseas location supporting U.S. Government operations. Employees may work in offices, industrial warehouses, ports, airfields, and outdoor environments and may be exposed to high temperatures, humidity, inclement weather, noise, dust, and uneven terrain. Work schedules may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and extended hours based on operational requirements.

Physical Requirements

 Requirements may include prolonged sitting, standing, walking, climbing stairs, lifting up to 25 pounds regularly and 50 pounds occasionally, and working in both indoor and outdoor environments. Must be able to meet all medical, security, and deployment requirements associated with assignment to a remote overseas location.
