The Decon facility tech plays a vital role in maintaining a safe and clean environment within the facility. This position requires attention to detail, adherence to strict protocols, and a strong commitment to safety. Responsibilities encompass comprehensive cleaning and sanitation of the facility, preparation and management of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), and assisting Industrial Hygienists with sampling procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

• Cleaning, Sanitation, and Decontamination:

• Daily cleaning of all facility areas, including break rooms, locker rooms, and common spaces.

• Thorough cleaning and decontamination of shower facilities (men's and women's) using a multi-step process: rinsing, application of all-purpose bathroom cleaner and decontaminant, scrubbing, rinsing, drying, and drain cleaning.

• Daily sweeping and mopping of all building floors.

• Cleaning and sanitizing break room furniture, locker room benches, sinks, and mirrors.

• Decontamination of PAPR (Powered Air-Purifying Respirator) helmets using approved solutions and procedures.

• PPE Management:

• Preparing, staging, and restocking PPE for facility personnel in designated donning areas.

• Meticulous management of PAPR (Powered Air-Purifying Respirator) helmets and verifying PAPR battery charge.

• Maintaining a clean and organized donning area.

• Assisting personnel during donning, ensuring proper PAPR assembly, fit, and seal.

• Doffing Assistance and Equipment Processing:

• Providing support during the doffing process in designated areas.

• Assisting personnel with PAPR and helmet removal, following strict protocols.

• Performing PAPR disconnection and hose capping, and blower unit handling.

• Managing helmet transport and cleaning in the PAPR Washroom using designated carts.

• Ensuring helmets are cleaned, dried, and cleared by wipe sampling before returning to the donning area.

• Waste Management and Laundry:

• Proper handling and disposal of general and contaminated waste, including segregation, container/bag usage, and transport.

• Managing the laundry process: washing, drying, and distributing towels, coveralls, and scrubs.

• Operating washing and drying machines, cleaning lint traps, and maintaining laundry equipment.

• Equipment Maintenance and Beryllium Wipe Sampling:

• Routine maintenance of laundry equipment (cleaning, inspection, troubleshooting).

• Assisting with weekly beryllium wipe sampling by recording data and running samples to the lab.

Additional Responsibilities:

• Assisting with other facility operations.

• Maintaining records.

• Participating in training programs.

• Adhering to all safety regulations and protocols.

Essential Functions: Intermittent sitting, walking, standing, bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, twisting, and lifting. Lifting requirements limited to 20 lbs. in the form of supplies, drawings, etc. Longest distance carried of 50 feet. Hand manipulation is required for simple grasping, pushing and pulling, and fine manipulation. Right and/or left hands utilized. Occasional need to reach and/or work above the shoulder, for supplies, as well as below the shoulder for same. Must be alert to equipment in the field, there will be occasional travel, will work near construction job site equipment when in the field, occasional need to work near hazardous equipment and machinery, occasional need to walk on uneven ground, exposure to dust, gas or fumes, exposure to noise, extremes in temperature or humidity, and potential work at heights.
