Role Title: Deputy Engineering Manager

Background and Scope:

LAND 8710 is a complex Defence program delivering joint Army and Royal Australian Navy capability, requiring integration of land systems into maritime environments.The Deputy Engineering Manager will be responsible for supporting the Engineering Manager in delivering and assuring the technical integrity of a complex, joint Army - Navy capability. The role oversees systems engineering activities across the full lifecycle, including requirements management, integration, verification and validation, and technical risk management, with a strong focus on ensuring interoperability between land and maritime environments. The task involves coordinating closely with Defence stakeholders, including Army, RAN, CASG, and industry partners, to manage interfaces, compliance, and certification requirements. The position also supports governance, configuration control, and design reviews, ensuring that engineering outputs meet Defence standards and that the capability can be safely and effectively integrated, tested, and delivered within program constraints.  

Responsibilities: 

• Support the engineering manager in leading and delivering all engineering activities across the project lifecycle
• Oversee systems engineering functions, including requirements management, interface control, integration, and verification & validation
• Ensure interoperability between Army and RAN systems within a joint operational and maritime environment 
• Coordinate with Defence stakeholders (Army, RAN, CASG) and industry partners to align technical outcomes and resolve issues
• Ensure compliance with Defence engineering policies, standards, and certification requirements (landworthiness and seaworthiness)
• Contribute to test planning and execution, including trials and acceptance activities 
• Support integration of capability into operational environments, including maritime constraints and amphibious use cases
• Align engineering activities with program schedule, milestones, and delivery objectives
    

Essential Requirements:
• Degree qualification (Mechanical, Electrical, Systems or Maritime Engineering, or related discipline). 
• Australian Citizenship. 
• Hold or ability to obtain NV1 security clearance. 
• Experience in a Department of Defence, preferably in Maritime or Land Domain. 
• Highly developed organisational and analytical skills. 
• Demonstrated ability to develop positive working relationships through high level communication skills. 

Desirable Requirements:
• Previous exposure to Australian Defence Force (ADF) Capability Acquisition and Sustainment Group and/or Marine Engineering Industry.
