The Disposal operator will be based at Amentum Baghdad Embassy Compound (BEC) in Baghdad, Iraq, and serve the Base Life Support Services contract in support of the State Department.  This position will report to the Disposal Yard Manager.  The duties and responsibilities listed below are representative of the nature and level of work assigned and are not necessarily all inclusive.  

DUTIES:

  • Responsible for maintaining a safe workplace and ensuring that safety is the highest priority in the workplace. 
  • Comply with all Environmental Health & Safety and Quality Assurance requirements and goals.  
  • Provide information and materials to these divisions as necessary to ensure adequate and legal documentation. 
  • Ensures data accuracy and update of equipment inventory database. 
  • Ensure that related data related to activities meet the requirements.  
  • Process excess documentation for all controlled and non-controlled excess equipment and materials. 
  • Review, reconcile, adjust and process all inventory transactions.  
  • Process and coordinate Equipment Transfers.  
  • Assist in a broad scope of direct and indirect support activities involving customer owned 

equipment as necessary to complete assigned tasks.  

  • Conduct daily inspections of assigned equipment and immediately report defects or maintenance requirements.
  • Assist with scrap metal processing and preparation for disposal or recycling.
  • Assist in contingency waste removal operations during emergencies, special events, or increased operational requirements.
  • Perform additional duties and projects assigned.  

REQUIRED:

  • Minimum Acceptable Experience Level: Minimum 4 or more years’ experience handling waste management and disposal activity.
  • Previous experience in waste management, sanitation, logistics, construction support, or material handling preferred.
  • Ability to operate or learn Disposal collection equipment and material handling equipment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors and team members.
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Prior proven experience in Property Disposal operations with Defense Reutilization 
  • Experience operating heavy equipment to include up to a 30K Forklift, Extended reach 
  • Forklift, Material Handler, Grappler (Excavator), Front End Loader and Material Shredders.  
  • Experience with cutting torches to include Plasma cutters. 
  • Commitment to maintaining a high-performance team which delivers customer service excellence. 
  • Knowledge of principles and processes involved in supporting contract 
  • responsibilities at an overseas facility. 
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment requires handling multiple tasks at a given time and rapidly adapting to changing priorities and schedules. 
  • Cross-cultural sensitivity with an international perspective. 
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills. 
  • Computer skills, specifically in Microsoft Word and Excel.

Physical Requirements

  • Frequently lift and carry materials weighing up to 25 kg.
  • Stand, walk, bend, climb, kneel, and work for extended periods.
  • Operate manual and powered equipment safely.
  • Work in dusty, noisy, and outdoor environments.
  • Wear required PPE, including safety boots, gloves, eye protection, hearing protection, and reflective clothing.

Working Conditions

  • Outdoor and industrial work environment.
  • Exposure to heat, dust, noise, and moving equipment.
  • May be required to work overtime, weekends, holidays, or emergency callouts to support mission requirements.

Performance Expectations

  • Complete disposal operations safely, efficiently, and on schedule.
  • Maintain high standards of cleanliness throughout assigned work areas.
  • Ensure waste is properly segregated and disposed of in accordance with environmental requirements.
  • Demonstrate reliability, professionalism, accountability, and teamwork while supporting mission operations.
  • Education: A high school diploma or GED (General Education Diploma) Certifications or 4 years’ substitute experience in waste management and disposal services will be acceptable.
  • Valid Iraqi driver’s license (if operating company vehicles).
  • Security Vetting: Already possess a RSO issued security clearance or be able to obtain a favorable RSO issued clearance prior to being hired is required for the position. Must maintain eligibility at the required certification or clearance level for the duration of the contract. 
  • Language Skills: Satisfactory English and Arabic proficiency to meet job requirements and to adhere and comply with safety, health, and security measures. 
  • Medical: Successfully complete and pass the medical and drug examinations as required by Amentum and our customer for deployment to Iraq. Must maintain physical and drug requirements for duration of deployment.

DESIRED:

  • Previous out of home country experience and previous work experience in harsh environmental conditions are a plus.
  • Experience supporting Department of State.
  • Experience working with Amentum.

OTHER KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of the principles and processes involved in Quality Control Management. 
  • Successful management of multiple sites in geographically dispersed locations. 
  • Ability to collect, analyze and summarize data and to prepare clear and concise reports. 
  • Experience in effectively dealing with international and headquarters staff, and sensitivity to other cultures. 
  • Exercise sound judgment and make decisions independently. 
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to handle multiple tasks and administrative details in a fast paced and constantly changing environment.  Expert communication skills to facilitate and disseminate information.

WORKING AND LIVING CONDITIONS:

This position may be located in a war zone, in an environment with harsh and dangerous working and living conditions. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may regularly be exposed to extreme and austere desert-like environment. Temperatures can reach 120- 130 degrees Fahrenheit/50-55 degrees Celsius during the summer months. Employees must be willing and able to perform regular job requirements in this austere, extreme environment, as well as willing and able to deploy to Iraq for extended periods. Work schedules are a minimum of 6 days per week and 10 hours per day, while some jobs have higher daily and weekly minimums. Employees must be willing and able to perform physical activities including, but not limited to, heavy lifting and moving of items, parts, assemblies, and equipment up to the safety regulation maximum; climbing in and out of equipment; crawling; and working outdoors. This includes being able to lift and carry 40 pounds of personal protective equipment for extended periods of time and being capable of running and ‘duck & cover’ during emergencies without putting oneself or others at risk.
