We have an exciting opportunity for an EHP EE Systems Engineer to join the team.

The Pressurized Rover (PR) is a mobile habitation vehicle focused on supporting crewed (2 crewmembers/suits) and uncrewed Artemis Program science and exploration objectives. When crewed, the PR provides a pressurized mobility system that supports exploration for long durations and distances away from the landing vehicle, extending the reach and exploration capabilities of other mobility assets. It will hold and be able to charge 2 suits simultaneously. When uncrewed, the PR with low or unpressurized cabin provides year-round science and exploration capabilities through science payloads and remote operation.

  • Review IDDs
  • Review JAXA test plans for power subsystem
  • Review Designs
  • Support PR Meetings
    • Weekly Meetings
    • SRPs
    • SRRs
    • Design Reviews
    • Bi-Weekly Meetings with JAXA
    • TIMs
  • Identify and assess impacts/risks to power subsystem.
  • Communicate with international partner JAXA to address perceived impacts/risks to power subsystem


Key science objectives:

  • Chronology (Sample Return)
  • Internal Structure (Lunar Seismometer Network)
  • Radio Astronomy (Lunar Observatory)


Mission Area:

  • Launch in 2029 with 10 years of operation (this is most likely delayed)
  • Phase 1 will be focused on the south pole region while going off the pole in phase 2 to maximize the scientific return
  • 30 to 42 days crewed mission per year
  • 330 days of uncrewed exploration by remote operation from the ground per year
  • Perform other duties as required


Requisition Qualifications:

This position has been posted at multiple levels. Depending on the candidate's experience, requirements, and business needs, we reserve the right to consider candidates at any level for which this position has been advertised.

  • Typically requires a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Engineering and may be expected to have a related master’s degree and normally possess 10-15 years of related experience.
  • Systems Engineering experience in the following areas:
    • Knowledge of requirements management

    • Knowledge of verifications (Analysis/ Inspection/ Testing)

    • Knowledge of various standards (AIAA / IEEE / ISO / NIST)

    • Knowledge of system integration

    • Knowledge of fault management (everything needs to be human rated)
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, be able to work in a team, and develop cooperative relationships with NASA, international, and commercial partners
  • Structural or mechanical system design experience including familiarity with design and analysis tools and testing methods
  • Ability to track multiple tasks and prioritize work independently
  • Self-motivation and quick learner to adapt to the broad array of subjects and issues encountered


Requisition Preferences:

  • Systems Engineering experience/background or a desire to learn systems engineering
  • EE Lead who has led electrical teams on design of systems which would have exposed the EE to various broad system areas
  • Working knowledge of NASA and JSC standards, practices and requirements including safety, fault tolerance, FMEAs and unique disciplines (i.e. mechanisms, Structures, Materials, etc.)
  • Experience with using CAD tools to open and manipulate CAD models or STP files in Creo
  • Experience in the following skill sets:
    • Photovoltaic Array
    • Grid-scale secondary energy storage
    • Wireless power transmission
    • Low-temperature secondary battery modules
    • May be good to have:
    • Solar array standards / knowledge
    • EEE components standards / knowledge
    • Reliable, Rad-hard power electronics
    • Transmission Cable system
    • Photovoltaic Arrays, Long life, grid-scale secondary energy
    • Wireless power transmission, Low temperature secondary battery

Work Environment

Generally, an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on task.

Physical Requirements

Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of time). May require lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs. (5% of time).

Equipment and Machines

Standard office equipment (PC, telephone, printer, etc.).

Attendance

Regular attendance in accordance with established work schedule is critical. Ability to work outside normal schedule and adjust schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements.
