Amentum is currently seeking a Electronic Engineer to support our customers’ needs at Gillem Enclave Forest Park, GA and forward deployed forensic laboratories. The Electronic Engineer (EE) will perform exploitation and reverse-engineering on IED electronic circuits, develop device characterization, along with Unmanned Aerial Vehicles and Systems (UAVs).  Identify, capture, analyze and characterize electronic devices and components from IED circuit boards for arming, firing and source characteristics.

Location: Forensic Exploitation Department (FXD) Gillem Enclave, Forest Park GA

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

Reverse engineering analysis to identify specific integrated components and electronics of unmanned systems; (engines, navigational sensors, antennas, construction building material, signal conditioning and power units)

Capture, characterize and identify IED electrical/electronic RF receiver and transmitter modules and circuit board characteristics, operating frequencies, and power

Specify component nomenclatures and research to identify resources and specifications, reverse engineering the devices if required

Analyze recovered electronic components visually, including switching circuits and power sources. Conduct research, provide information, and develop accurate schematics of devices using CirCad

Analyze, demodulate, and decode signals to extract intelligence data using standardized demodulation and decoding tools and techniques for commonly encountered signals

Utilize laboratory measuring equipment, spectrum analyzers, signal generators, and associated instrumentation to perform exploitation of the devices and materials

Perform Electronic Data Recovery (EDR) of logical and physical data on mobile phones and other media storage devices using hardware/software tools including Cellebrite UFED, XRY, FTK and other forensic tools.  Analyze the EDR files to recover data that may be of investigative or intelligence value

Perform electronic data extraction and de-soldering techniques of components; (EEProms microcontrollers using In-system programming (ISP)

Document all exploitation results in all required outputs such as component lists, circuit layouts, mechanical drawings, or in LIMS

Responsible for reporting and briefing critical finds to both military and DoD civilian leadership. Also, coordinating with other governmental agencies (OGA) on technical aspects of devices/UAVs.

Support development of countermeasures for electronic devices/signals

Provide information to assist in profiling and signature analysis. Produce storyboards and technical reports on captured data. Maintain and document chain of custody of items and data.

Required Qualifications:

Eight (8) years of experience in a radio frequency (RF) test environment and characterizing electronic components for intelligence products and reporting.

Eight (8) years of experience performing benchtop RF measurements (e.g. occupied bandwidth, average power, pulse width, etc.) using signal generators, spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes, and other equipment.

Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field is preferred, although we will also consider candidates with significant experience in lieu of a degree. 

Experience with Unmanned Systems (Aerial, Vehicle, Surface)

Experience with Integrated development environment software (IDE) and Raspberry Pi, Arduino devices

Experience with testing and characterizing electrical components of IEDs and/or Software Defined Radios (SDR)

Experience with standard operating procedures for the storage, testing and transport of samples and components found in captured materials

Demonstrated ability to produce technical reports on findings and develop device profiles

Demonstrated proficiency using Microsoft applications Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret US Government Clearance.

Note: US Citizenship is required to obtain a Top Secret Clearance.

Must be able to obtain US Passport

Must be able to complete and pass a medical assessment per customer requirement

Preferred Qualifications:

Master’s degree in engineering or related field may substitute for one (1) year of experience

Prior experience working in or with forensic laboratories

Must have an Active Top Secret US Government Clearance. Note: US Citizenship

is required to obtain a Top Secret Clearance. 

Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands:

Typical laboratory work environment with associated hazards. This position requires OCONUS deployment travel in support of forward deployed Forensic Exploitation Laboratories
