OCCUPATIONAL SUMMARY:

The FDSM A working in the Life Support (PEMO), Cryogenics, or Hypergolic Storage Facility (HSF) applies advanced technical knowledge to perform complicated tasks and resolve problems associated with systems and equipment required to receive, issue, and store hazardous propellants, cryogenic fluids and high pressure gases.  Assist the Lead Technician in overseeing operations involving their work location and in the absence of the Lead will assume all duties of the Lead until this individual returns.  Maintains, fabricates, repairs and operates most of these systems in a safe and efficient manner.  Generates/records the associated maintenance and operations data.  Works under the general guidance of a manager/supervisor and Lead responsible for all operations in the work area, for compliance with safety, quality and environmental regulations, providing safe and efficient service in accordance with the demands on the system.  Assist the Lead to resolve problems that require significant interface with Engineering, Quality, Safety, customers/users, suppliers, and senior management; and implements directives of greater complexity than solely manufacturers’ specifications, manuals or other documents.  Provides extensive technical guidance to lower level technicians, determining the method and sequence of work processes, transmitting via oral and/or written instructions. This is a union position with the Teamsters and the hourly pay rate is $53.89.

TYPICAL DUTIES:     

• Assist the Lead to direct and control the operation, maintenance and repair of multiple hazardous propellant, cryogenic and high pressure gas storage and distribution systems.  May include associated delivery and support systems, such as life support systems, vacuum pumps, compression pumps, rolling stock, etc.  Initiates and controls the movement and storage of these commodities using both direct and remote communication media.
• Assist the Lead to provide technical guidance in the performance of actual, and/or valet service for life support operations, post-operations inspection and testing, and annual maintenance and repairs.  Life support operations involves the donning and doffing of Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) and Self Contained Atmospheric Personnel Ensembles (SCAPE) during the handling of highly toxic, hazardous gases and propellants.
• Provides technical guidance on, and inspects, troubleshoots, maintains and repairs, various types of Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) life support equipment, such as, Environmental Control Units (ECU), Emergency Breathing Apparatus (EBA), Emergency Life Support Apparatus (ELSA), Ingress/Egress units, and SCBA Draeger units.
• Directs and controls the inspection, periodic testing, repair and replacement of high pressure gas bottles, tanks, pipelines, valves, regulators and ancillary equipment for malfunction, leaks and deterioration indicators.  Applies specialized experience to identify and mitigate potentially hazardous situations.
• Directs and controls work from drawings, sketches and written directions on how to install low and high pressure distribution systems.  Directs and controls fabrication and installation of gage and pressure control panels.
• Directs and controls acceptance testing of hydrostatic, pneumatic, thermal, and electrical equipment and systems.  Directs and controls fabrication and installation of gage and pressure control panels.
• Directs and controls disassembly, problem diagnosis and repair of hazardous propellant, cryogenic and high pressure system components, equipment and facilities required to maintain operational status.
• Directs and controls the transfer (loading and unloading to and from tanks, pipelines, etc.), storage and transportation of hazardous propellant commodities, cryogenic fluids and high pressure gasses to customers/users.  Directs and controls conduct of blowdown and pressure cycle operations required to change trailer service from one high pressure gas medium to another.
• Ensures that subordinate technicians receive extensive operations and safety training and adhere to all safety procedures for working in hazardous areas and with hazardous materials and equipment.
• May operate tractor-trailer, general-purpose vehicle, and forklift equipment as required.
• Produces and controls maintenance and operational records of the activities in each assigned functional area.
• Performs other related duties as assigned or required by management.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

High school education, or equivalent, with five years experience in the same or closely related work.  A minimum of two years experience must be in the same type work.  Also requires a history in growth of responsibility in a complex technical environment.

If required, must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance as required by the Department of Defense.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Current Class A, or ability to be trained and obtain a Class A CDL.

Current (ASE) Automotive Service Excellence certification or ability to obtain.
