Heavy Equipment Operator (Crane Cert)

Purpose and Scope:

Operate cranes and other heavy equipment on a military installation. This position is in support of the Air Force Contract Augmentation Program (AFCAP) and is located at Ascension Island Auxiliary Airfield (AAAF).

Essential Responsibilities:           

  • Abide by crane lift plans for all hazardous, mission essential equipment, and items requiring dual crane lifts.
  • Excavate, load, or move and distribute dirt, gravel, or other materials.
  • Excavate or stockpile material on roads, drill pads, event sites, and construction sites.
  • Assures that machinery is maintained properly, and fluid levels are adequate.
  • Operator may read and interpret grade and slope stakes and simple plans, and may grease, adjust and make minor emergency repairs to equipment.

Minimum Position Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Minimum five (5) years of recent heavy equipment experience
  • Must be crane certified IAW 29 CFR 1926.1427
  • High school diploma or equivalent training & experience.
  • Ability to read and write English is required.
  • Solid communications skills, strong interpersonal skills.
  • Strong ability to work as a member of a diverse, dynamic team.
  • Outstanding problem-solving skills and sound judgment. 
  • Candidate should be other country national (OCN) or local national (LN).
  • Possess a valid driver’s license. passport from their country have ability to obtain a work visa. 
  • Ability to successfully pass contract medical requirements and maintain requirements for duration of deployment.

Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands:

  • Able to stand for long periods of time such as eight (8) to ten (10) hours, bend, kneel, and reach to store/retrieve supplies.
  • Able to lift, carry, and push supplies and boxes up to 50 pounds.
  • This position will be exposed to products of fire to include heat, smoke, toxic fumes, and gasses.
  • Living and working conditions at the assignment location could be remote and uncomfortable. 
  • Long hours, exposure to weather and hazardous conditions.
  • Personnel should be aware of moving on short notice and under adverse conditions. 
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally.
