Join the team responsible for one of the most critical missions in nuclear waste management – supporting the safe handling of High-Level Waste (HLW) at the Hanford Reservation.  As a HLW Maintenance Specialist, you will be developing and maturing maintenance strategies that will contribute to the safe treatment and immobilization of highly hazardous radiological waste.  In this role you will be responsible for planning and organizing the equipment maintenance program while providing input to the HLW design.  You will be working collaboratively with the HLW Operations and Engineering teams to develop technical maintenance approaches to shape final design elements.

Your expertise will ensure equipment reliability and maintainability across a full range of industrial systems from mechanical handling and process systems to HVAC and utility systems which all support the glass melter and off-gas treatment systems. This position shall be performed under the day-to-day direction, control, and supervision of WTCC

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES/TASKS

  • Support development and implementation of spares and obsolescence management program

  • Support Testing, Operability, Maintainability reviews, system design reviews, and related document reviews to ensure maintenance approaches and provisions are acceptable

  • Support development of system and equipment maintenance approaches and strategies, including basic Computerized Maintenance Management System needs and constraints, Bill of Material (BOM) processes, and related maintenance concepts

  • Program document development / writing to include maintenance strategies and program planning

  • Innovate optimal maintenance practices to create opportunities through design / process improvements

  • Support development of maintenance personnel organization planning

  • Support the Waste Treatment Plant Nuclear Safety Quality Culture by emphasizing the values of safety and quality in the performance of work to protect self, others, and the environment

REQUIREMENTS/SPECIFICATIONS

In support of the High Level Waste maintenance development and facility design, possess the ability to translate experience in maintenance planning and performance into meaningful design input to ensure equipment maintainability.  Identify, lead, and support resolution of maintainability issues across a variety of systems including electrical, process, mechanical handling, and instrumentation.  Facilitate collaborative reviews with team members and stakeholders - both in-person and virtually.  Possess the ability to quickly solicit input from team members, assimilate the information, and then communicate the desired outcomes to external groups in a collaborative way.

Education:

Bachelor's degree in business, engineering, construction management or economics and 6 years’ experience in Maintenance Programs.

OR

Associates degree in business, engineering, construction management or  economics and 8 years’ experience in Maintenance Programs.

OR

High School Diploma/GED and 10 years’ experience in Maintenance Programs.

Experience:

  • Minimum of six years of professional experience in Maintenance Programs

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Candidate must be proficient in Microsoft applications suite (e.g., Word, Excel, Access, Visio, PowerPoint, etc.)

  • Hands-on experience with Maintenance Programs for systems such as electrical, process, mechanical handling, and instrumentation.

Preferred Experience:

  • Maintenance performance, planning and coordination experience in the DOE / ISMS / VPP / Commercial Nuclear environment.

  • One year of nuclear facility experience is preferred (Nuclear Experience when used in reference to Nonreactor Nuclear Facilities, is experience acquired at any facility in which radioactive materials are routinely handled, stored, processed, or utilized)

  • Relevant Maintenance experience in an operating plant:

  • Nuclear Maintenance Management Program planning and development

  • Maintenance best practices in design reviews

  • Aging and Obsolescence

  • Design phase maintainability reviews

  • Experience with removability of equipment in high radiation areas

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

(EFNM) Exposed Field Non-Manual

Performs desk work, including writing, computer workstation processes, and telephone operation. Arranges for and/or performs presentations, oral reports, planning meetings, and other formal and informal contacts, requiring long periods of sitting. Oversees field activities through inspections, testing and equipment operations, which requires walking, standing, bending, and turning along with wearing of personal protective equipment. Occasional loading, transport, and unloading of tools and/or supplies specific to an activity.

This position is currently located in Richland but may move to the Construction Site (22 miles north of Richland) and works a 9x80 schedule, M-F every other Friday off, 6:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Must be able to work in the United States without Sponsorship

Must be able to obtain a Department of Energy (DOE) badge for access to the Hanford site.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

HIRING SALARY RANGE: $115,543.99 - $182,530.01 (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant internal equity, and alignment with market data.)
