The Occupational Hygienist position is responsible for overseeing and coordinating all aspects of the Occupational Hygiene program to ensure interpretation, recommendation and compliance with safety, health and environmental regulations (US and Australian) and/or company policy.

The position supports a multi-disciplined facility located south west of Alice Springs, with additional supporting infrastructure located within the Alice Springs township. The facility is self-sufficient, generating power, water supply, treatment, storage and distribution, general waste and hazardous waste generation, chemical use, maintenance activities, warehousing and transportation services, dining facility, health and fitness facilities including medical clinic and gym.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and maintain workplace procedures, processes and permits related to occupational hygiene including noise, heavy metals, asbestos, heat stress, dust, chemical exposure, asbestos and non-ionizing radiation.
  • Conduct occupational hygiene assessments and effectively communicate findings and actions required.
  • Deliver toolbox talks and internal training on occupational hygiene topics to proactively mitigate risks and inform safe working practices. Topics include hearing conservation, PPE use and storage requirements, air monitoring, hazardous chemical awareness.
  • Maintain occupational hygiene equipment including tracking and coordinating calibration and issuance of equipment. 
  • Organize and facilitate external vendors and partnerships with NATA accredited testing labs.
  • Conduct investigations into workplace incidents and document findings and corrective actions.
  • Ensure compliance with all site environmental health and safety requirements
  • Any other reasonable duties as requested

QUALIFICATIONS and EDUCATION

Minimum Essential

  • Tertiary qualifications in Occupational Hygiene, Asbestos, Environmental Science, or a related field
  • Experience in occupational hygiene assessments
  • Strong verbal and written communication
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite

Desirable

  • Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) – US Citizens
  • Australian Institute of Occupational Hygienists (AIOH) – AUS citizens

TICKETS AND LICENCES

Minimum Essential

  • Driver’s License

Desirable

  • Construction Induction (White Card)
  • Working at Heights
  • Confined Space Entry
  • Gas testing

Experience – Minimum Essential

  • 3-5 years work experience in the occupational hygiene field

Competencies

  • Basic knowledge of computer applications e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel, and data entry
  • High-level of communication; written and verbal, teamwork and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and in collaboration with a motivated group Health Professionals
  • Planning and organizational skills

WORK ENVIRONMENT, PHYSICAL DEMANDS, AND MENTAL DEMANDS

  • Ability to lift up to 20kg independently
  • The position involves approximate equal time office work and standing/moving field-work
  • The position includes field-work including industrial spaces such as powerplants and exterior areas in a high-heat location
  • Constant use of vision and mental alertness is required

SECURITY CLEARANCE REQUIREMENT

It is a condition of employment that employees obtain and retain the appropriate level of security clearance and medical clearance applicable to each role. The employee will require a NV1 Department of Defence Security Clearance (Australian) or  or TS/SCI (U.S.) clearance w/ Poly.

STATEMENT OF WORK REQUIREMENTS

All personnel assigned shall be:

  • At least 18 years of age.
  • Able to fluently read, write and speak English

EHS REQUIREMENT

All Amentum personnel are responsible for understanding and complying with all site environmental, health and safety requirements. While Amentum is responsible for providing a safe workplace and is responsible for ensuring compliance with requirements of the JDFPG Handbook, each person is responsible for:

  • Completing work tasks in a safe manner
  • Reporting any unsafe acts or conditions to their supervisor and/or PMO/EHS Manager
  • Continuous adherence to the environmental, health and safety procedures outlined in the JDFPG Handbook during the performance of their work
  • Red-Carding a Job - Employee right and responsibility to “STOP WORK” if a job is unsafe or possess a danger to the environment
