Irrigation Supervisor

The Irrigation Supervisor will be based at one of three Amentum sites in Iraq and serve the Operations and Maintenance Support Services (OMSS) contract in support of the U.S. Department of State. This position will be responsible for the daily oversight of irrigation system and will report to the Site Services Manager. The duties and responsibilities listed below are representative of the nature and level of work assigned and are not necessarily all inclusive.

DUTIES:

  • Operates the irrigation system, checks for leaks, and various other problems daily and detect and makes necessary repairs to the irrigation system.

  • Uses moisture gages and control grass watering schedules.

  • Taking care of trees, shrubs, flowers, and lawns by watering, pruning, fertilizing, mulching, controlling weeds, and caring for beds, planting trees, shrubs, grass, and flowers, etc.

  • Collect and dispose of leaves, dirt, rubbish, and refuse on the compound.

  • Operate and maintain power equipment, hand tools, including tractors, trucks, mowers, edger’s, trimmers, blowers, chain saws, hedge trimmers, digging tools, compaction tools, light/heavy duty vehicles, skid steer loaders, trenchers, backhoes, rakes, shovels, blowers, weed eaters, sprayers, and any other equipment associated with turf and irrigation care.

  • Mow, trim, aerate, dethatch, edge, pull weeds and/or apply weed control, including spot-spraying weeds; prepare and treat soil for planting.

  • Maintain all areas on the compound to include planting, weeding, and removing trash, debris and litter from street rights-of-way, lawns, beds, and other areas.

  • Prepare athletic fields, tennis, and volleyball courts for organized use.

  • Trim trees, prune shrubs and annual plantings, mow turfs, sweep walkways and leave areas in a clean and orderly condition; plant new materials and upgrade existing planted areas; water and fertilize planted areas.

  • Make minor repairs and adjustments to tools and equipment used.

  • Assist with street and utility maintenance functions in emergency situations.

  • Communicates effectively with other employees in the landscaping department. 

  • perform other related duties as assigned.

REQUIRED:

  • Minimum Acceptable Experience Level:

    • Five years’ experience building and operating irrigation systems utilizing irrigation controllers, parts, valves, spray head, rotor heads and drip systems.

    • Two (2) years’ supervisory experience.

  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    • Able to monitor moisture gages and determine irrigation settings for optimum water usage.

    • Expertise in detecting and repairing irrigation systems including troubleshooting leaks, low pressure, irrigation controller error codes, decoder issues and valve problems.

    • Able to understand the drawings and install new automatic irrigation system under guidelines of landscaping manager.

    • Able to prepare technical list of all irrigation materials and system automation components.

    • Able to perform various landscape maintenance requirements as stated above along with making minor repairs and adjustments to tools and equipment.

    • Able to work with multicultural personnel in an OCONUS setting.

    • Able to communicate with the client and respond to client requests within the scope of work.

  • Education: A high school diploma or GED.

  • Passport Licenses and Certifications: As part of pre-contingency requirements, by the time the visa process starts, candidates must possess a valid passport with a minimum of 18 months remaining to expiration date with 8 blank pages.

    • Valid drivers’ license.

  • Security Vetting: Already possess a US Government issued security clearance or be able to obtain a favorable US Government clearance prior to being hired is required for the position. Must maintain eligibility at the required certification or clearance level for the duration of the contract.

  • Language Skills: Satisfactory English proficiency to meet job requirements and to adhere and comply with safety, health, and security measures.

  • Medical: Successfully complete and pass the medical and dental examinations as required by Amentum and our customer for deployment to Iraq. Must maintain physical and dental requirements for duration of deployment.

DESIRED:

  • Relevant overseas experience, preferably field experience in the Middle East with knowledge of local culture and customs.

  • Experience working with Amentum.

WORKING AND LIVING CONDITIONS:

This position may be located in a war zone, in an environment with harsh and dangerous working and living conditions. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may regularly be exposed to extreme and austere desert-like environment. Temperatures can reach 120- 130 degrees Fahrenheit/50-55 degrees Celsius during the summer months. Employees must be willing and able to perform regular job requirements in this austere, extreme environment, as well as willing and able to deploy to Iraq for extended periods. Work schedules are a minimum of 6 days per week and 10 hours per day, while some jobs have higher daily and weekly minimums. Employees must be willing and able to perform physical activities including, but not limited to, heavy lifting and moving of items, parts, assemblies, and equipment up to the safety regulation maximum; climbing in and out of equipment; crawling; and working outdoors. This includes being able to lift and carry 40 pounds of personal protective equipment for extended periods of time and being capable of running and ‘duck & cover’ during emergencies without putting oneself or others at risk.
