Amentum is seeking a Machinery Maintenance Mechanic to support a unique US Navy program on the island of Diego Garcia. The Machinery Maintenance Mechanic will be responsible for the inspection, diagnosis, repair, maintenance, and operational readiness of automobiles, trucks, and heavy machinery. This position performs advanced mechanical troubleshooting and repairs, provides technical guidance to mechanics, evaluates equipment safety and condition, and recommends maintenance or design modifications as needed.
Job Responsibilities:
- Perform technical repairs, preventive maintenance, and corrective maintenance on automobiles, trucks, heavy equipment, and related machinery.
- Diagnose mechanical problems using appropriate testing and diagnostic equipment.
- Troubleshoot complex mechanical systems and determine the appropriate repair or corrective action.
- Inspect vehicles and equipment to identify mechanical deficiencies, safety concerns, and potential maintenance requirements.
- Order or recommend parts, components, and materials required to complete repairs.
- Perform quality checks on work in progress and upon completion to ensure repairs meet established standards.
- Conduct preventive maintenance inspections and complete repairs in accordance with manufacturer recommendations and established procedures.
- Interpret and apply manufacturer repair manuals, technical specifications, schematics, engineering drawings, and diagnostic codes.
- Instruct and provide technical guidance to mechanics regarding required vehicle inspection methods and repair procedures.
- Review and analyze inspection and maintenance reports and provide recommendations for corrective action.
- Make recommendations regarding required maintenance, repairs, equipment improvements, and design modifications.
- Evaluate the safety and operational condition of vehicles and equipment and recommend appropriate corrective measures.
- Ensure completed repairs and maintenance activities meet applicable quality, safety, and operational standards.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation of inspections, repairs, parts used, and maintenance activities.
- Coordinate with the Maintenance Supervisor and other personnel to prioritize repairs and maintain equipment availability.
- Support the safe and efficient operation of maintenance activities in accordance with organizational policies and procedures.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned that are consistent with the nature and level of the position.
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Typically, five (5) or more years of experience in an automotive, heavy equipment, or related mechanic role.
- Experience troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining automobiles, trucks, and heavy machinery.
- Experience using diagnostic and testing equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, engineering drawings, and manufacturer specifications.
- Ability to perform physically demanding maintenance activities and work for extended periods as required.
- Ability to successfully meet applicable contract medical requirements and maintain compliance throughout deployment.
- Knowledge of workplace safety practices and proper handling of equipment and materials.
- Must be in possession of a valid passport and be able to travel internationally.
- Passport must be valid for a minimum of one (1) year or more at the time of hiring.
- Ability to obtain country-specific visas per the U.S. Department of State Foreign Clearance Guide.
- Ability to successfully pass contract medical requirements and maintain compliance throughout the duration of deployment.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization.
- Must read, speak, and comprehend English to the extent that they can perform the contract requirements and comply with installation emergency procedures.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior experience working in an austere OCONUS (Outside the Continental United States) environment with a multi-national workforce
- A valid driver’s license to legally operate a motor vehicle.
- Formal training, certifications, or credentials in automotive, diesel, heavy equipment, or mechanical repair.
- Experience maintaining military, industrial, construction, or specialized heavy equipment.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to work under pressure while maintaining safety and quality standards.

Working Environment
This position is located on Diego Garcia, British Indian Ocean Territory (BIOT), a remote overseas location supporting U.S. Government operations. Employees may work in offices, industrial warehouses, ports, airfields, and outdoor environments and may be exposed to high temperatures, humidity, inclement weather, noise, dust, and uneven terrain. Work schedules may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and extended hours based on operational requirements.
Physical Requirements
Requirements may include prolonged sitting, standing, walking, climbing stairs, lifting up to 25 pounds regularly and 50 pounds occasionally, and working in both indoor and outdoor environments. Must be able to meet all medical, security, and deployment requirements associated with assignment to a remote overseas location.
