The COMET contract provides overall management and implementation of ground systems capabilities, flight hardware processing, and launch operations at NASA's Kennedy Space Center (KSC) in Florida. These tasks will support the International Space Station, Ground Systems Development and Operations, and the Space Launch System, Orion Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle, and Launch Services programs.

This requisition is for a Functional Leader - GSS second shift. This position resides within the Ground Systems Support Operations and Maintenance organization at Kennedy Space Center, providing leadership to a high performing team that reliably maintains and operates numerous assets in support of Exploration Ground Systems, International Space Station, and Launch Services Processing.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and clear direction to a team of technicians across three departments within GSS.
  • Build strong relationships based on trust, integrity, and keeping commitments.
  • Proactively identify opportunities to provide recognition and constructive feedback to employees.
  • Conduct tailgate meetings to include safety briefings.
  • Assign technicians to work crews for daily scheduled tasks.
  • Work closely with planners, schedulers, area integrators and flow management ensuring diligent planning, readiness, and scheduling to optimize resources and maximize productivity.
  • Forecast overtime labor and assign as required to meet schedule, especially in support of critical path work/tasks.
  • Maintain persistent communication and coordination with customers and leadership.
  • Ensure work is performed safely per established Health, Safety and Environmental Procedures (HSEPs), Operating Procedures(OPs), and Work Authorization Documents (WADs).
  • Ensure timely and thorough incident response, reporting, and corrective action.
  • Engage in the field including participation in pre-task briefings, review of work orders and safe plans of action; assessment of personal protective equipment, and performing behavioral safety observations and filing reports.
  • Monitor department certifications for technicians to include required training, and supporting the development of new certifications as required.
  • Work to develop and recognize strong performance within the department and support continuous improvement efforts.
  • Facilitate meetings between engineering, technicians, work control, and customers as required to proactively solve problems associated with accomplishing work and meeting schedule.


Minimum Qualifications include:

  • High School degree and 15 years of experience
  • Candidates must have demonstrated experience and success in leading represented operations and maintenance technicians (to include an understanding of Collection Bargaining Agreements) and working with engineers.
  • Must have an understanding of hazard assessment (ex: working at heights) and OSHA requirements.
  • Experience with planning and scheduling tools such as Maximo, Primavera, and Solumina are desirable.
  • This position may require significant overtime (to include weekends) and may require shift work on occasion.
