Role Title: Outfitting Engineer

Scope: 

We are seeking an experienced Outfitting Engineer to support the delivery of the LAND 8710 program, working at the interface of Army and Royal Australian Navy capability. In this role, you will be responsible for the design, integration, and installation of physical systems and equipment onto maritime platforms, ensuring Army capability can be safely and effectively operated in a naval environment. You will develop outfitting solutions including layouts, mounting arrangements, stowage, and support systems, while ensuring compliance with naval standards for safety, seaworthiness, and platform constraints such as space, weight, and environmental conditions. Working closely with naval architects, marine engineers, Defence stakeholders, and industry partners, you will resolve integration challenges, contribute to design reviews, and support configuration control and installation activities. You will also play a key role in verification and trial activities, ensuring all outfitted systems perform effectively during maritime and amphibious operations.

The key responsibilities of the role include, but not limited to: 

• Develop and manage outfitting designs for equipment, fittings, and infrastructure on ships or amphibious platforms
• Ensure all outfitting (e.g., fixtures, mounts, storage systems, access points) supports safe and effective operation of Army capability at sea
• Coordinate integration of mechanical, structural, and auxiliary systems (e.g., tie-downs, cradles, power connections, handling gear)
• Ensure compliance with naval standards, including seaworthiness, safety, and space/weight constraints 
• Work closely with naval architects, marine engineers, and Army stakeholders to resolve layout and interface issues 
• Oversee or review installation activities during build or modification phases 
• Contribute to design reviews (PDR/CDR) and ensure outfitting considerations are incorporated early 
• Support configuration and change management relating to physical integration 
• Assist with verification and trials, ensuring outfitted systems function correctly during sea trials and amphibious operations
• Identify and manage integration risks, particularly where land equipment interfaces with maritime platforms
• Ensure maintainability, accessibility, and human factors considerations (ergonomics, safe access, handling) are addressed


Essential Requirements:
• Engineering Degree qualification (Mechanical, Marine, Naval Architecture, or related discipline). 
• Knowledge of systems integration across land and maritime domains
• Experience in the design and assessment of: Equipment mounting and securing systems - Stowage and handling arrangements - Space,weight and centre of gravity  considerations 
• Strong understanding of Defence engineering and certification frameworks, preferably maritime 
• Highly developed working knowledge of mechanical and structural design particularly in constrained environments. 
• Working understanding of verification, testing and trials processes
• Demonstrated to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams and the ability to develop positive working relationships through high level communication skills. 

Desirable Requirements:
• Knowledge of configuration management and change control processes
• Experience in amphibious or littoral operations environments
