Amentum is seeking a Power Plant Superintendent to support a unique US Navy program on the island of Diego Garcia. The Power Plant Superintendent is responsible for supervising and managing all operational aspects of the power plant to ensure the reliability, safety, and efficiency of power generation. Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following.
Job Responsibilities:
- Supervising and overseeing the operation of three-phase/60 Hz diesel engine-driven generators rated at a minimum of 1,000 kW and its associated systems and equipment.
- Monitoring power plant operations, ensuring compliance with safety standards, operational protocols, and efficiency requirements.
- Directing and assigning tasks to power plant personnel to meet operational and maintenance schedules.
- Developing and implementing procedures to optimize power generation and efficiency while minimizing downtime.
- Troubleshooting and addressing technical issues related to generator equipment and power distribution systems.
- Preparing and maintaining documentation for operational activities, maintenance, and compliance audits.
- Conducting regular inspections and audits of power plant equipment to ensure proper functionality and readiness.
- Ensuring compliance with applicable regulations, safety standards, and technical specifications.
- Coordinating and communicating with upper management, project leaders, and team members to accomplish power generation goals.
- Required to comply with all occupational safety and health standards, rules, and orders applicable to their actions and conduct. The role demands consistent, proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), proactive reporting of workplace hazards, and total adherence to safety protocols to maintain a zero-injury environment.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned that are consistent with the nature and level of the position.
Required Qualifications:
- At least three (3) years of documented experience operating three-phase/60 Hz diesel engine-driven generators rated at a minimum of 1,000 kW and its associated equipment and systems.
- Proven knowledge of power plant operations and maintenance, with a focus on diesel-driven generators and related power distribution systems.
- Familiarity with applicable safety standards, regulations, and industry best practices.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Strong leadership, problem-solving, and decision-making skills in a power plant or industrial setting.
- Must be able to speak, read, and comprehend English to the extent that they can perform the contract requirements and comply with installation emergency procedures.
- Must be in possession of a valid passport and be able to travel internationally.
- Passport must be valid for a minimum of one (1) year or more at the time of hiring.
- Ability to obtain country-specific visas per the U.S. Department of State Foreign Clearance Guide.
- Ability to successfully pass contract medical requirements and maintain compliance requirements for the duration of deployment.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certifications or advanced technical training in power plant operations, diesel generation systems, or equivalent fields.
- Prior supervisory experience in a power plant or large-scale operational environment.
- Experience in an OCONUS (Outside the Continental United States) or austere environment working with a multi-national workforce.
- Valid country driver’s license.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and management skills.

Working Environment
This position is located on Diego Garcia, British Indian Ocean Territory (BIOT), a remote overseas location supporting U.S. Government operations. Employees may work in office, industrial, warehouse, port, airfield, and outdoor environments and may be exposed to high temperatures, humidity, inclement weather, noise, dust, and uneven terrain. Work schedules may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and extended hours based on operational requirements.
Physical Requirements
Requirements may include prolonged sitting, standing, walking, climbing stairs, lifting up to 25 pounds regularly and 50 pounds occasionally, and working in both indoor and outdoor environments. Must be able to meet all medical, security, and deployment requirements associated with assignment to a remote overseas location.
