Role Title: Reliability, Availability & Maintainability (RAM) Engineer

Scope and Project Background:

LAND 8710 was developed in response to strategic direction for the Australian Army to operate in littoral environments, replacing ageing amphibious capabilities with a modern, integrated system of landing craft, vehicles, and infrastructure. It enables independent ship-to-shore manoeuvre, sustained operations without port access, and improved deployment across the Indo-Pacific. Within this program, the RAM Engineer plays a vital role in ensuring that platforms are reliable, available, and maintainable throughout their lifecycle; supporting design, testing, and sustainment activities to maximise operational readiness and ensure the capability performs effectively in demanding littoral conditions.

The key responsibilities of the role include, but not limited to:

- Ensure platform and system reliability through the analysis and prediction of failure rates on   vessel propulsion systems, mechanical/electrical and mission systems and amphibious vehicle subsystems
- Support vessel and Mission readiness through achieving operational availability targets
- Model & optimise vessel availability considering maintenance regimes, spares provisioning and deployment cycles
-  Definition and refinement of maintenance concepts inclusive of scheduled & corrective maintenance, repair times and level of repair decisions
- Support the development of maintenance plans and sustainment strategies for harsh environments (saltwater, corrosion and remote operations)
- Collaborate closely within systems engineering teams to influence design ensuring reliability and ease of maintenance, weight vs redundancy and performance vs life-cycle costs
- Embed RAM considerations into vessel and vehicle design and integration of mission and combat systems
- Monitor in service performance of landing craft fleets and amphibious logistics vehicles
- Identify trends such as failure modes and maintenance bottlenecks
- Recommend improvements to increase fleet availability and operational readiness

Essential Requirements:

- Bachelor's degree in mechanical, systems, electrical or mechatronics engineering or a similar relevant discipline
- Strong working knowledge of failure distributions/ weibull analysis methodology, MTTR and repair strategies, availability modelling and reliability growth and degradation within a defence maritime/land environment
- Demonstrated experience in systems engineering including lifecycle frameworks, requirements development, V&V processes and systems integration preferably in relation to Defence maritime systems
- Comprehensive hands on experience in ILS principles, Naval or maritime engineering and harsh environment impacts
- Proven background in reliability modelling and prediction, statistical analysis or failure data and data analysis
- Long term exposure and experience to the interpretation of technical drawings and system schematics, analysis or test & trial data and performing MTBF calculations/availability modelling/ spares and support modelling
- Exceptional written communication skills with experience in the development of Technical assessments, FMECA reports, RAM management plans, requirements traceability matrices and engineering reports for key stakeholders
- Strong stakeholder engagements skills and the ability to adapt communication style to audience
- Flexible outlook and strong work ethic
