Amentum is seeking a Science Advisor to support our U.S. Department of Energy and Counterintelligence (DOE-IN) contract. Positions will be based in Washington, D.C. With options of other locations such as West Virginia, Pennsylvania, and Newport News, VA.

Responsibilities: Serves as the Science Advisor to support the counterintelligence program, specific duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Serves as subject matter expert on nuclear weapons science and technology, analysis matters concerning nuclear weapons, special nuclear materials (SNM), and other fissile materials to ensure CI-related assessments are technically and scientifically sound.
  • Independently researches, conceptualizes, assesses and recommends modifications to innovative projects designed to enhance the DOE CI product through scientific and technical means.
  • Provides consultative services as required throughout the Department, as well as inter-departmentally, to policy and technical groups or organizations.
  • Assignments concentrate on the limitation of proven concepts and practices of broad and complex areas where issues and factors to be considered are largely undefined and require extensive probing and analysis to determine the nature and scope of the problems.
  • Participates in DOE’s Critical Infrastructure Protection efforts.
  • Develops liaison contacts within the United States Counterintelligence and Intelligence Communities to further research and analytical objectives and goals of the DOE Counterintelligence Program. In this capacity, serves as technical expert for the sharing of science-related counterintelligence information.
  • Makes oral presentations, which convey ideas, facts, conclusions, estimates, and projections to a variety of DOE and United States Counterintelligence and Intelligence Community personnel.
  • Prepares a variety of written communications and documents, to include national security studies and policy recommendations.

Requirements

  • Must possess a current Department of Energy Q security clearance and Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI)

  • Advanced degree, from an accredited university or college in scientific or technical field such as engineering or the physical sciences.

  • Five (5) years of field experience conducting research or working in their selected field, interfacing with world class research and engineering organizations, and have subject matter expertise in the area of nuclear science and technology, preferably weapons development, design and engineering.

  • Must have a thorough understanding of the dual-use nature of nuclear technologies, and be able to identify potential nefarious use of legitimately obtained technology.

  • Experience at a U.S. National Laboratory and a collateral understanding of emerging sciences (electro-optical, laser, accelerator technologies, advanced materials science, nanotechnologies, and micro electro mechanics) is desired.
