Roles and Responsibilities:The Software Test Analyst will conduct both formal and informal white-box (unit-level) and black-box (integration-level) software testing in support of the Space Launch System (SLS), the Software Development Facility, and other integration facilities within the MSFC Space Systems Division. Testing efforts will verify software functionality in accordance with established formal and design-level software requirements for the Flight Computer of NASA’s Space Launch System.
This position reports to the Flight Software Test and Verification Lead. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills, thrive in a CMMI Level 3 environment, and demonstrate proficiency in preparing test documentation, supporting test readiness and anomaly reviews, and engaging with Software Readiness Boards to facilitate formal software product releases.
These responsibilities will be ongoing as the SLS architecture evolves and the program progresses through various phases, reviews, and schedule milestones.
Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field is required. Degree from an ABET accredited university preferred. Typically, educational requirements are the equivalent of a minimum of a Masters with at least 3 years of experience, or BS with at least 5 years of experience.
Requirements: - Ability to read and comprehend software written in C or C++, including interfaces such as MIL-STD-1553, Ethernet, TCP/IP, and RS-422.
- Experience evaluating test data, correlating results with expected outcomes, and investigating anomalies.
- Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python or in developing scripts using UNIX or Windows scripting tools for test automation, product release, and regression testing.
- Experience developing and executing test procedures, including pre-test configuration (e.g., instrumentation, data acquisition, software loading/configuration) and post-test tasks (e.g., data archiving and analysis) within a simulated environment.
- Familiarity with Agile or other software development methodologies.
- Knowledge of Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) principles and practices.
- Understanding of UML (Unified Modeling Language) for software design representation.
- Experience with requirements management tools such as IBM DOORS or DOORS Next Generation (DNG).
- Experience with GitHub.
- Familiarity with software development toolsets; experience with the Atlassian suite (e.g., JIRA, Confluence) is a plus.
- Proficiency with data reduction and manipulation tools.
- Ability to write and maintain technical documentation including test plans, test procedures, and formal verification reports.
- Ability to review program/project documentation and provide feedback from a software testing perspective.
- Solid understanding of systems and software engineering processes, including Agile practices and object-oriented development methodologies.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including PowerPoint, Excel, and Word.
- Active participation in meetings and discussions in support of the aforementioned tasks.
- Ability to perform routine assignments in accordance with detailed specifications and established guidelines.
Essential FunctionsWork Environment: This position is 100% onsite and in a lab environment. Requires ability to provide clear, concise, accurate and timely communication, both verbally and in writing (100%). Requires ability to interact professionally with co-workers, management, and client (100%). May require limited travel.
Physical Requirements:Requires sitting for extended periods of time in meetings with peers, management, and with our client at NASA facilities to discuss technical issues (10%). Also, requires sitting for extended periods of time at a desk to write reports and perform engineering tasks (40%). Requires ability to use stairs or elevators for access between floors and multiple buildings at NASA and other facilities (10%).
Equipment and Machines: Requires ability to operate a personal computer, a telephone, fax machine, copier, calculator, and other general office equipment (100%).
Attendance:Normal workday 7:30 - 4:30, Monday thru Friday. Shift work is required during 24 hour operations. Minimal overtime may be required (10%) to meet schedule milestones and to support technical demands of the job. Regular attendance is a necessity, and adequate arrangements for delegating duties during absences are required. Flexible scheduling.
