Amentum is seeking several Field Support Technicians (FSTs) to support the Surveillance Towed Array Sensor System (SURTASS) program. This position is based at JEB Little Creek, Virginia Beach, VA, and requires domestic and international travel as needed. FSTs are vital team members who ensure SURTASS systems are ready and operational at all times.

 

Key Responsibilities

·       Provide technical support for SURTASS mission systems, including troubleshooting, repairs, testing, and system restoration. Document all activities in detailed reports.

·       Maintain and Repair Systems: Perform maintenance, troubleshooting, upgrades, and repairs on SURTASS mission equipment and pier-side gear while documenting all work.

·       Install and Test Equipment: Complete hardware/software installations, test system performance, and verify readiness.

·       Log maintenance actions in the Job Sequence Number (JSN)/Military Sealift Command (MSC) Work Request (WKRQ) system, ensuring thorough documentation of labor, resources, and time used.

·       Review and suggest updates to technical manuals, publications, and maintenance procedures to improve accuracy and effectiveness.

·       Conduct TL-29A system grooming and module balancing as part of routine maintenance.

·       Provide Training: Deliver in-port refresher training to shipboard technicians and ensure proper documentation.

·       Emergency Support: Be available 24/7 to handle urgent technical issues and minimize downtime.

·       Documentation and Upgrades: Keep system records updated, review technical changes, and assist with implementing new equipment or updates.

·       Team Collaboration: Work closely with Operations and Maintenance (O&M) crews, technical authorities, government representatives, and contractors.

·       Be prepared for CONUS and OCONUS travel, including short-notice assignments and up to 3-month deployments.

·       Work on ships at sea, rotating shifts, and hours exceeding 40 per week as needed.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

·       Associates Degree in Computer Science, Electronics Technology, or technical related field with five or more years of experience. Additional years of experience, training, and/or certifications may be considered in lieu of degree requirement.

·       Currently possess DoD Secret Clearance with ability to obtain a DoD Top Secret clearance level upon hire.

·       Possess or ability to obtain a valid U.S. passport.

·       Thorough understanding of COTS maintenance requirements, and open architecture implications as well as, understanding of the administration of the U.S. Navy Maintenance Material Management System (3M).

·       Ability to work under minimal supervision and provide training to shipboard assigned electronic maintenance technicians.

·       Position may require the ability to perform in an arduous environment.

·       Able to pass a mariner’s Physical per COMSCINST 6000.1.c and must maintain their medical fitness for the position.

·       Must have a valid driver’s license and be willing to obtain an international driving permit to drive on the left side of the road if needed.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

·       Graduate of US Navy electronics “C” school or equivalent civilian electronics technical school. Curriculum must have dealt directly with industrial maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of communications systems, navigations systems, and sonar surveillance systems.

·       Fours (4) years of experience in the maintenance and repair of SURTASS ARRAYS which includes: TL-29A Twin-line, Low Frequency Active (LFA), Compact Low Frequency Active (CLFA) and High Frequency Marine Mammal Mitigation Sonar (HFM3).

·       Five (5) years of experience in the maintenance and repair of the SURTASS PROCESSING SUBSYSTEMS which includes: ICP, UNIX based processing systems, LINUX, Windows, GCCS-M, GPS (Commercial and MIL-STD) & SURTASS COMMS SUBSYSTEMS which includes: SHF, UHF SATCOM and LOS, HF, IFF, SECURE VOICE and DATA CRYPTOs, CMS, EKMS, KMI, SIPRNET, ADNS/CFCP, SIPR and NIPRNET.

·       Experienced in civilian and/or military operations.

 

       

Compensation Details:

$56,000 and up
