About the Opportunity Location: Cumbria / Warrington / Hybrid
We are seeking a passionate and strategic Sustainability Lead to join us supporting our clients creating a cleaner, safer environment for future generations. You’ll be instrumental in embedding sustainable practices across a portfolio of highly complex and critical national infrastructure projects in the nuclear decommissioning industry and adjacent areas.
Working across a collaborative delivery ecosystem comprising designers, integrators, civil and process engineering experts, you will drive innovation, culture change, and ESG impact, shaping some of the UK’s most important projects.
Key Responsibilities:Strategy & Leadership - Lead the development and delivery of sustainability strategies or approaches aligned with programme objectives and national policy, with a particular emphasis on carbon and environmental aspects.
- Integrate sustainability into every stage of project delivery-from concept design and procurement to commissioning and legacy planning.
- Champion long-term environmental performance and social value creation across all programme activities.
Operational Delivery - Oversee delivery of sustainability metrics, including carbon reduction, biodiversity enhancement and delivery efficiency.
- Ensure sustainability is embedded into engineering design, and also site operations, supply chain engagement, procurement frameworks, and reporting processes.
- Work with colleagues to achieve net zero goals, and support implementation and maintenance of ISO 14001.
- Support lifecycle assessments (LCA), carbon literacy training, and circular economy principles across the programme, and implementation of PAS 2080.
Collaboration & Engagement - Act as a key advisor and influencer to senior leaders, delivery partners, and external stakeholders.
- Facilitate cross-functional collaboration to raise awareness, build capability, and enhance sustainability culture.
- Share best practice and insights across the portfolio from nationally significant infrastructure contexts.
Monitoring & Assurance - Track, analyse and report on progress against ESG goals, ensuring clarity, credibility, and compliance.
- Lead or facilitate sustainability audits and reviews across the project portfolio and supply chain.
- Continuously evolve and adapt sustainability plans to align with changing environmental standards, policies, and programme demands.
- Degree or equivalent knowledge & experience in Sustainability, Environmental Management, Engineering, or related field.
- Proven experience leading sustainability on major construction or infrastructure projects.
- Strong understanding of UK sustainability legislation, standards (e.g. PAS2080, ISO 14001), and carbon/net zero frameworks.
- Skilled in managing stakeholder engagement and translating complex data into clear, compelling narratives.
- Collaborative and pragmatic approach, seeing the bigger picture, whilst mindful of the stringent regulatory environment we and clients routinely operate in
Desirable - Membership of IEMA, CIOB, ICE, or similar recognised body; working towards or holding Chartership is preferred.
- Experience in the nuclear or other highly regulated industry
- Experience with or good working knowledge of BREEAM, LEED, WELL, or similar certifications.
- Experience working within alliance/partnership delivery models.
- Good knowledge of PAS2080 and experience in its implementation
- Familiarity with Science-Based Targets, carbon accounting platforms, or social value measurement frameworks.
