CLEARED O&M Shipboard Tech Specialist (Entry-Level) | 6-Month Maritime Deployments
Want a real tech career without getting trapped behind a desk? We’re building a talent pipeline of O&M Shipboard Techs to run and fix advanced, classified Navy submarine-tracking systems (SURTASS). If you’re a hands-on problem solver who loves tearing down gear and wants to see the world, this is it. Do you learn fast, roll with changing environments, and want to do work that actually matters? Zero maritime experience? No problem. We handle all the training.
The Reality of the Lifestyle
Let's be clear: this isn’t your typical 9-to-5. You’ll live and work onboard a ship supporting a rotation schedule of 6-month stretches at sea then 3-months off.
The upsides: Your room and board are totally covered while deployed. That means serious cash-saving potential while hitting ports few people ever visit.
The trade-offs: Ship life means tight quarters, heavy seas, and relying on a close crew. You've got to be up for the challenge.
What Your Days Will Actually Look Like
You’ll help launch and recover surveillance arrays, tackling mechanical, electrical, or hydraulic gremlins as they pop up.
You'll monitor live data streams in the Operations Center, ensuring critical national security info moves without a hitch.
You'll track parts, log fixes into the WILD system, and keep inventory tight.
This role fast-tracks you into high-paying defense sectors like maritime networks (C4I), electronics maintenance (EM), or cybersecurity (KMI).
What It Takes to Get In (Minimum Requirements)
active U.S. Secret security clearance. (Note: US Citizenship is required to maintain a Secret clearance.)
A valid U.S. Passport.
High school diploma or GED.
Three (3) years’ professional experience in an operational support environment.
Basic comfort and/or interest in IT, electronics, car maintenance, or general engineering.
DoD 8140 IAT Level II certification within 12 months of hire.
Desired or Preferred Qualifications
Experience with technical documentation, maintenance logs, or inventory tracking (e.g., WILD) is a plus.
Prior hands-on general maintenance, marine systems, or working at sea experience.
An Associate Degree in Computer Science, Electronics Technology, or be a graduate of US Navy electronics “C” school or equivalent electronics technical school. Curriculum must have dealt directly with the maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of: VME computers, digital computers, microprocessors, or peripheral/interface equipment, networks, communications system, navigation system and/or sonar system.
Five years’ experience of practical hands-on experience in the operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of one or more of the following: Virtual Machine Environment (VME) computers, networks, digital computers, microprocessors, communications systems, navigation systems, and/or sonar systems.
Experience with SURTASS mission systems is preferred.
