The Computer Operator V resolves a variety of difficult operating problems (e.g. making unusual equipment connections and rarely used equipment and channel configurations to direct processing through or around problems in equipment, circuits, or channels or reviewing test run requirements and developing unusual system configurations that will allow test programs to process without interfering with ongoing job requirements). 

Minimum Requirements

  • Must be US citizen

  • Completion of High School diploma, certification of education level is required.

  • Completion of computer operating courses is required – must be submitted with application.

  • Minimum of four years’ work experience as a Computer Operator.

  • Must be in possession of a U.S. Passport and be able to travel internationally with minimum 6 blank pages and 3 plus year validity on expiration date of passport.

Security Clearance Required

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a US Government SECRET Security Clearance. Note: US Citizenship is required to obtain a SECRET Security Clearance. Interim SECRET approved for start


Working Permits Required

  • Must be authorized to work in Germany / in possession of a German work visa/Permit and German Tax ID number prior to start date. Candidate agrees to apply for such permits without any undue delay. Employment is contingent the candidate's ability to present these documents.

Principal Accountabilities

(Typical duties include the following, although specific duties vary by assignment or contract)

  • In response to computer output instructions and error conditions or to avoid loss of information or to conserve computer time, operator deviates from standard procedures. Such actions may materially alter the computer unit's production plans.

  • Computer Operator V may spend considerable time away from the control station providing technical assistance to lower level operators and assisting programmers, systems analysts, and subject matter specialists with resolution of problems.

  • Typically, completed work is submitted to users without supervisory review.

  • In response to computer output instructions or error conditions, the Computer Operator V may deviate from standard procedures if standard procedures do not provide a solution.

  • Refers problems which do not respond to corrective procedures to a person of supervisory level.

  • Reviews error messages and makes corrections during operation or refers problems.

  • May test run programs and assist in modifying systems or programs.

  • Perform other qualified duties as assigned

Knowledge & Skills

  • Must be able to Read, Write and Communicate effectively in English

  • Must possess the typing skills necessary for timely data input

  • Associates Degree or equivalent is required

  • Completion of computer operating courses is required.

  • Knowledge of mainframe digital computers, networks, and control consoles.

  • Knowledge of programming to the level to modify existing software and write routine programs.

Physical Requirements/Working Environment

  • Generally, works in normal office environment, but may be required to travel domestically and internationally on short notice, to austere environments, under harsh living conditions.

  • Completion of computer operating courses

  • Verification of Germany work visa and German TAX ID number (or confirmation of willingness and ability to obtain Germany work visa and German TAX ID number prior to employment.)

  • Employment start within 8-10 weeks contingent Security Clearance and Work Permit, preferably sooner.
