About the Opportunity:
Amentum are part of a 10-year control systems framework for designing, manufacturing, and installing control systems to aid decommissioning and operational efficiency, the project comprises of more than 200 nuclear facilities and more than 1,000 buildings in Cumbria. We are a Key supplier and are looking for people to join our team. You will be working on a multi-million-pound contract to manage system design, Programme, Test and assembly. The framework supports the site's high-hazard risk reduction programme.
We have existing Teams out of Birchwood Park, Warrington, Cumbria and Newcastle North East, where we can manage hybrid working, with occasional site visits.
We’re looking for a Control Systems Engineer with solid PLC experience who wants to move beyond routine work and take ownership of real engineering challenges. This is a mid-level role (typically 3–7 years’ experience), ideal for someone ready to step up—broadening their technical exposure across multiple platforms and progressing toward a Senior Engineer position.
You’ll work across the full project lifecycle, from design through to commissioning, on complex, safety-critical systems.

What You’ll Be Doing
Design and develop PLC software using platforms such as:
Rockwell (Studio 5000)
Siemens (TIA Portal)
Schneider (EcoStruxure)
and/or
Develop and configure HMI / SCADA systems, Rockwell FactoryTalk View (ME/SE), Schneider AVEVA / Citect / Vijeo Designer, Siemens WinCC / Flex, Intouch Wonderware or similar, Support full project delivery:
Concept and detailed design, System build, development and integration
Testing. Both Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) & Customer Acceptance Testing (CAT)
Support Site Installation, Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) & Commissioning
Contribute to system validation, testing, and troubleshooting activities
Produce high-quality technical documentation (design specs, test docs, user manuals)
Work closely with multidisciplinary teams (electrical, mechanical, project delivery)

Here’s What You’ll Need:
Essential:
Degree/HND in Electrical Engineering, Control Systems, or related field (or equivalent experience)
Experience with PLC or SCADA programming in industrial environments
Familiarity with IEC 61131 programming languages
Experience supporting testing, commissioning, or system integration
Strong problem-solving and fault-finding skills
Ability to work collaboratively within project teams
Desirable:
Experience with Rockwell, Siemens, or Schneider PLC platforms
Experience with SCADA / HMI systems
Background in regulated industries (e.g. nuclear, oil & gas, pharma)
Interest in developing multi-platform expertise
Additional Information
Hybrid working (typically 2–3 days per week in the office, depending on project needs)
Flexible working hours to support work-life balance
UK travel required at key project stages (e.g. site visits and commissioning).
Security clearance: BPSS required (SC eligible)
