This is full time position providing environmental mission support.
Summary
In addition to meeting the necessary qualifications the selected candidate must be comfortable working in a dynamic and high-energy environment. This position will be based in Japan, primarily at a customer location aboard MCAS Iwakuni in support of a Base Operations & Support contract with the Department of Defense (DoD)/Navy- Marine Corps.
Performance Location: The individual filling this position will be supporting Amentum on a contract for the US Department of Defense and working at the Marine Corps Air Station, Iwakuni, Japan.
Working Environment: This is a non-SOFA assignment
Work Schedule: This position works eight hours/day, five days a week minimum. The candidate will be required to be on call for emergency spill response 24 hours a day, every day of the year including holidays.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
- Performs environmental spill response and cleanup of hazardous substances.
- Conducts environmental sampling and testing of hazardous substances, when applicable.
- Coordinates with U.S. Government (USG) personnel regarding sample requests and environmental inquiries.
- Coordinates with laboratories in the collection and analysis of hazardous waste.
- Conducts environmental inspections to ensure workplace safety and compliance with local, host-nation, and federal regulations.
- Conducts environmental assessments to assist other functional areas
- Posts instructions, warnings, or other markings as necessary in applicable workspaces, to include Safety Data Sheets (SDSs).
- Provides guidance to Amentum employees, subcontractors, and vendors regarding environmental policy and regulation.
- Supports the Environmental Safety & Health and Quality teams by providing metrics and/or other information as necessary to ensure compliance with local, host-nation, and federal regulations.
- Coordinates with the logistics team regarding hazardous materials procurement.
- Dispose of hazardous waste in accordance with the Japan Environmental Governing Standards (JEGS) and other applicable USG requirements.
- Attends required Amentum and USG meetings, when requested
- Completes required Amentum and USG training
- Assists in the development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Plans, Forms, and/or other documentation to comply with the Performance Work Statement (PWS).
- Develop techniques and procedures for efficient and profitable operations in their specified area.

Minimum Acceptable Experience and Qualification Levels:
- Must possess excellent customer service skills
- Must possess excellent oral and written communications skills.
- Must have exceptional proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite
- Previous experience working directly with a customer
- Previous experience working for a laboratory
Education:
- Four-year degree in environmental science, chemistry, or a related field is required. One year of relevant work experience may be substituted for one year of education. Degree or 4 years’ experience.
Language Requirements:
- Must be fluent in speaking, reading, and writing English. Communication is primarily in English
- Must have excellent oral and written communication skills sufficient to effectively communicate with employees, management, and the client.
Professional Licenses & Certifications:
- 40-HR HAZWOPER
- 30-HR OSHA General Industry or Japanese equivalent course.
- Acceptable Japanese equivalent courses: Japan Construction Occupational Safety and Health Association (JCOSHA) KOUJI SHUNIN COURSE or SYOCHOU COURSE.
- Respiratory Fit Testing
Other Requirements:
- Candidate must possess a valid passport of home country with a minimum of 12 months remaining until expiration date. If not currently a resident of Japan
- Will be expected to obtain a company-sponsored Japanese Work Visa if not currently a resident of Japan
- Will be expected to occasionally escort personnel and business visitors onto MCAS Iwakuni.
- Position requires the applicant to drive in the performance of work duties. Applicant must be able to obtain and maintain a Japanese Driver License and be able to operate a Company provided motor vehicle on MCAS Iwakuni.
- Transportation is not provided to locally hired personnel for the purpose of commuting to and from the workplace. Non-locally hired are expected to obtain and maintain the legal ability to operate a Company provided vehicle both on and off the installation for the purpose of commute and/or on-site transportation. Those unable to obtain and maintain the legal means to operate a motor vehicle in Japan or aboard the installation will be responsible for their own transportation for all purposes.
- Spill response and cleanup operations may occur in inclement weather to include hot, humid, cold, rain, and windy conditions.
- Environmental operations may require the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) to include safety eyewear, face shield, safety footwear, hard hat, reflective vest, chemical resistant gloves, respiratory protection, raingear, chemical resistant apron, personal fall arrest system, hearing protection, and other specialized PPE as required
