Amentum, a global leader in advanced engineering, technical, and professional services supporting the U.S. government, allied partners, and critical infrastructure sectors, is seeking an Equipment Operator to support a unique U.S. Navy program located on the remote island of Diego Garcia.
Job Responsibilities
The Equipment Operator is responsible for operating and maintaining various types of heavy and light equipment in support of construction, maintenance, and logistics operations in accordance with Navy operational standards and safety requirements. Responsibilities include operating equipment such as forklifts, loaders, backhoes, graders, dump trucks, and other material‑handling or construction equipment as assigned.
The Equipment Operator performs daily equipment inspections, ensures proper operation prior to use, and reports mechanical issues or safety concerns to supervisory personnel. This role includes supporting site preparation, material transport, earth‑moving, and facility maintenance activities while adhering to established work plans and procedures.
Additional duties include maintaining clean and orderly work areas, assisting with basic equipment maintenance, following traffic and operational safety rules, and supporting mission‑driven operations in a remote environment. The Equipment Operator contributes to efficient project execution while maintaining strict compliance with safety, environmental, and quality standards.
Minimum Requirements
- 1–3 years of experience operating construction, industrial, or material‑handling equipment
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Valid country driver’s license
- Valid equipment operator certifications or licenses (forklift, heavy equipment, etc.)
- Basic knowledge of equipment operation, safety practices, and preventive maintenance
- Ability to perform physical tasks including lifting, bending, climbing, and prolonged equipment operation
Employees must read, speak, and comprehend English to the extent that they can perform the contract requirements and comply with installation emergency procedures.
Passport must be valid for a minimum of one (1) year or more at the time of hiring.
Ability to obtain country-specific visas per the U.S. Department of State Foreign Clearance Guide.
Ability to successfully pass contract medical requirements and maintain compliance throughout the duration of deployment.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience working in an austere OCONUS environment with a multi‑national workforce
- Experience supporting Navy, DoD, or government construction or logistics operations
- Strong attention to detail, situational awareness, and time management skills
- Excellent organizational, time management and customer service skills
- Ability to obtain country‑specific visa(s) in accordance with the U.S. Department of State Foreign Clearance Guide

Working Environment
This position is located on Diego Garcia, British Indian Ocean Territory (BIOT), a remote overseas location supporting U.S. Government operations. Employees may work in office, industrial, warehouse, port, airfield, and outdoor environments and may be exposed to high temperatures, humidity, inclement weather, noise, dust, and uneven terrain. Work schedules may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and extended hours based on operational requirements.
Physical Requirements
Requirements may include prolonged sitting, standing, walking, climbing stairs, lifting up to 25 pounds regularly and 50 pounds occasionally, and working in both indoor and outdoor environments. Must be able to meet all medical, security, and deployment requirements associated with assignment to a remote overseas location.
