Job Description

We are currently seeking an Estimator to support our Independence, OH office, supporting projects in various international locations.

The estimator will actively participate in the collective preparation of comprehensive, accurate, and consistent cost estimates/proposals for projects between $1M-$100M.  Project types include but are not limited to tenant improvements, civil infrastructure (border crossings), electrical infrastructure (generators, uninterruptible power supplies, battery energy storage systems), communication (wireless and fixed networks), CBRNE laboratories, and high-hazard process facilities.  Interprets construction bid documents and technical drawings to identify engineering specifications, evaluate and estimate materials, manpower, schedule and budget.  Utilizes formal training and experience to provide technical expertise, adhering to a clearly defined estimating process, and ensures compliance with Amentum compliance pre-determined process/procedures.

Functional Responsibilities include:

  • Reviews and analyzes relevant Request for Proposal (RFP) documents to determine estimate worksheet requirements for response to RFP.

  • Reviews draft Project Engineers work scope and requirements to ensure subcontractor pricing data is properly captured for preparation of Amentum’s estimates/proposals.

  • Accumulates statistical data by completing discipline labor and or material takeoffs of work scope.

  • Prepares and reviews clarifications, checklists and document lists for estimate submission.

  • Incorporates sub-contractors’ and/or material suppliers’ proposals in the proposal worksheet as required for clarity.

  • Performs material take-offs and systematically estimate costs involving fabrication, manufacturing, systems and construction projects.

  • Initially prepares and reviews estimates/proposals to ensure completeness, accuracy, and conformity to functional process.

  • Assists with populating the necessary estimates/proposals documents such as clarifications lists, tender forms, work break down structures, rates schedules, etc.

  • Contributes to the development of estimating basis identifying utilized estimating methodologies.

  • Contributes to the identification of potential risks, opportunities, and alternative solutions.

  • Collectively maintains estimating historical benchmarking database.

  • Reviews and provides input to the technical proposal related to the estimate.

  • Provides input to and reviews proposal basis of estimate for accuracy against the cost estimate

  • System Requirements:

    • Utilize estimating software and enter accumulated statistical data and costs.

    • Set up job and specs as well as enter take-off data.

    • Develop estimating skills in more than one discipline.

Communication

  • Communicate with proposal and estimating team members to discuss preparation of proposals, resolve issues, etc.

  • Collaborate with other functions to enhance project success on an as needed basis required by the Estimator Lead.

  • Promotes the Amentum culture both internally and externally.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Intermediate knowledge of estimating techniques and strategies for international projects.

  • Intermediate knowledge of construction.

  • Ability to calculate mathematical extensions, analyze and understand construction drawings, associated documentation, work breakdown structures, etc.

  • Ability to assume responsibility and to interface and to communicate effectively with others, having strong interpersonal skills and self-motivation.

  • Able to use work breakdown structures and reporting estimates progress.

  • Basic understanding of the FAR and government contracts  

  • Expert computer skills:

    • Microsoft Excel

    • Adobe Acrobat

    • Estimating Software (RS Means or similar)

    • Intermediate computer skills:

      • Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Access, Project

      • AutoCAD a plus

      • Primavera or Microsoft Projects Scheduling Software a plus

      • SharePoint

Minimum Requirements:

  • Mechanical/Civil Engineering/Construction Management degree or equivalent

  • PMI certification a plus

Experience

7-10 years of practical experience in organizing and preparing cost estimates/proposals for international construction projects would be considered equivalent for the formal education requirement.

       

Compensation Details:

$98,000-$108,000

       

The compensation range or hourly rate listed for this position is provided as a good-faith estimate of what the company intends to offer for this role at the time this posting was issued. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as job responsibilities, education, experience, skills, internal equity, market data, applicable collective bargaining agreements, and relevant laws.
