We need your talent, teamwork, and energy to help us achieve great things that inspire people all over the globe. We need you to bring creative ideas and diverse backgrounds to help us envision, shape, and deliver systems that will enable the exploration of space while benefiting people here on Earth. We are excited about what we do, and we need you on our team as we take on exciting challenges for NASA’s pursuits in deep space exploration. As NASA’s largest engineering solutions provider working together with NASA at centers across the United States.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Mechanical Engineer - Rotating Equipment to join the team with HX5, a teammate company.

The Mechanical Engineer - Rotating Equipment will:

  • Lead all reliability and lifecycle activities for critical rotating assets, high-vacuum systems, and complex pumping architectures.

  • Develop detailed engineering calculations, technical specifications, and procurement packages for pumps, compressors, mechanical seals, bearings, and vacuum components.

  • Act as the primary technical lead for real-time troubleshooting of mechanical failures, vibration issues, and performance degradation in rotating systems.

  • Conduct formal Root Cause Analysis (RCA) on equipment failures reports and implement data-driven corrective and preventive action plans.

  • Review, update, and interpret P&IDs, isometric drawings, and mechanical schematics to maintain strict configuration control.

  • Oversee the design, installation, commissioning, and long-term maintenance of mechanical systems to ensure peak operational readiness.

  • Partner with Systems Engineering, Human Factors, and maintenance teams during collaborative drafting sessions for facility upgrades and HITL test plans.

  • Provide hands-on technical guidance and training to maintenance and operations personnel to improve system-specific knowledge and reduce manual errors.

  • Participate in hazard reviews, design assessments, and reliability audits to ensure all equipment meets applicable codes (ASME, ANSI) and safety standards.

  • Coordinate directly with vendors and contractors to resolve technical discrepancies and ensure high-quality delivery of specialized mechanical components.

  • Maintain configuration management control and documentation throughout project and lifecycle phases

  • Support procurement of mechanical components, including pumps, compressors, seals, bearings, and vacuum equipment.
