Purpose and Impact:  

​​The Refrigeration Mechanic functions as key member of a multi-skilled team to safely and effectively maintain and repair facility infrastructure and critical systems associated with the HVAC-R infrastructure on base. The Refrigeration Mechanic provides a professional service in the execution of technical repair & maintenance of all assigned facility infrastructure equipment. This includes elements of planning, organization, coordination, scheduling, training, mentoring, and resource management associated with the day-to-day maintenance of the facility.  
 
The Refrigeration Mechanic is responsible for the efficient and timely identification and completion of maintenance work tasks and ensuring high levels of service are maintained. This includes, but is not limited to, maintenance of chillers, DX refrigeration equipment, chilled water-cooling, Refrigeration and Freezer systems, and residential air conditioning systems. This role also ensures that the Refrigeration Mechanic completes repairs and maintenance of all equipment in a manner that maximizes productivity and equipment reliability.  
 
The Refrigeration Mechanic is a member of a small team of experienced tradespeople responsible for the day-to-day maintenance of multiple system components and equipment that supports both mission and routine business operations, as well as responding to unscheduled repairs. Within this team the Refrigeration Mechanic must contribute to a culture of continuous improvement, supporting the implementation of improvement initiatives and technical advance as well as having the ability to think on their feet and complete assigned tasks to a high standard.  
 
This position reports to the Maintenance Superintendent and will work as a member of the overall Facilities Operations & Maintenance team, working closely with other departments to foster, promote and maintain best-practice standards and enable reliable, consistent and effective maintenance and operation of facility systems. This role is key to the success of the broader O&M team and thus also works closely with all Facilities O&M personnel in the delivery of high-quality facility O&M services to enable the mission.​ 

Work Schedule:  

​​Day shift – 5 days per week, 8 hours per day​  

Essential Responsibilities:  

​​Performing maintenance tasks as required; either predictive, corrective or preventative maintenance to reduce downtime and improve efficiency. 

​Execute rapid and reliable response to abnormal facility operational situations and emergencies; including equipment repair when necessary. 

​Diagnose, repair, and maintain a variety of commercial and industrial refrigeration equipment, including chillers, freezers, and air conditioning units. 

​Maintain a complete and current working understanding of all relevant facilities infrastructure, equipment and systems 

​Interpret technical drawings, schematics, and manuals. 

​Replace or upgrade worn parts, motors, valve, and control units as needed. 

​Conduct leak detection, pressure testing and re-gassing in accordance to environmental standards. 

​Responsible for the accurate and timely completion of job-related documents, such as Work Orders, time sheets and safety reports. Job-related documentation requires inputting and processing information from paper Work Orders into digital systems. 

​Ensure compliance with all safety regulations, industry standards, and environmental requirements. 

​Ensure, promote, and maintain health and safety practices/compliances at site and within the workplace.​ 

 

Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands: 

Personnel are required to be medically fit to work and safely complete all physical tasks associated with the role in which they are employed. While this role is predominantly sedentary in nature, personnel must remain able to safely access associated areas and perform required actions without undue impacts to individual health and wellbeing.​ 

Requirements (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities): 

​​Minimum Essential 

  • ​Strong understanding of Work Health & Safety policies & procedures;  

  • ​Demonstrated understanding and experience working within Facility Maintenance or similar technical environment;  

  • ​Strong understanding of facilities, equipment and functionality;  

  • ​Strong knowledge of the environmental impacts and legislative requirements regarding ozone depleting substances.  

  • ​Strong understanding of facilities O&M requirements;  

  • ​Strong understanding of equipment maintenance requirements (preventive, predictive, & corrective);  

  • ​Demonstrated high level of problem solving, decision making and analytical skills 

 

Desirable 

  • ​Enterprise Resource Planning experience. (SAP)  

  • ​Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite 

  • ​Proficient level of computer skills​ 

 

Security Clearance Required: 

​​Minimum Active U.S. Secret or Australian Negative Vetting (NV1) equivalent Department of Defense Security Clearance and ability to maintain that clearance. Depending on ongoing mission needs and access the role requires, the candidate may be required to obtain a higher U.S. Top Secret or Australian Top Secret Positive Vetting (TSPV) clearance.

  • 4 years post trade experience 

Required Certifications: (if needed) 

Minimum Essential 

  • ​Australian candidates must hold and be able to maintain an Australian "Restricted" Grade Electrical License,  

  • ​US candidates must hold and maintain a minimum of a US State "Journeyman’s" License  

  • ​US candidates from Arizona must hold and maintain a US State "Contractors" License. 

  • ​Australians RAC01 – Full Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Licence issued by ARCTick 

  • ​Australians Certificate III in Air Conditioning and Refrigeration 

  • ​US – EPA Section 608 Technician Certification
