Amentum, a global leader in critical mission support, engineering, technology, and national security solutions, is seeking a Sr. HVAC Technician to support a government contract based at Iwakuni, Japan.

A successful candidate will have strong communication and problem-solving skills to support a rewarding customer mission.  He/she will perform the full range of work involved in the repair, overhaul, maintenance, and servicing of heating, ventilation and air conditioning units and systems. This is full time position providing operational mission support.

Summary

In addition to meeting the necessary qualifications the selected candidate must be comfortable working in a dynamic and high-energy environment. This position will be based in Japan, primarily at a customer location aboard MCAS Iwakuni in support of a Base Operations & Support contract with the Department of Defense (DoD)/Navy- Marine Corps.

Performance Location: The individual filling this position will be supporting Amentum on a contract for the US Department of Defense and working at the Marine Corps Air Station, Iwakuni, Japan.

Working Environment: The candidate will work on maintenance sites including exposure to the dangers inherent with traveling to and working on such sites.  This is a non-SOFA assignment

Work Schedule: This position works eight hours/day five days a week minimum. On-call rotation with after hours response to emergency work orders.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work with a wide variety of commercial and industrial systems to include those which require that the employee troubleshoots, installs, repairs, and modifies special purpose air conditioning, refrigeration, or climate regulations systems used to provide specific, critical conditions.
  • Performs preventative maintenance services, repairs, modifies, and alters unusually complex or unique air conditioning and refrigeration systems in order to maintain full system(s) designed operational capabilities and maintain specific pressure, temperature, and climate characteristics.
  • Troubleshoots and repairs equipment such as that above for which specifications and technical manuals do not exist or have large gaps.
  • Tests installed, modified, or repaired systems to ensure that specifications and equipment performance requirements are met.
  • Will act as the lead HVAC Technician on their assigned shift; Trains inexperienced personnel by giving on-the-job instructions and assistance.
  • The successful candidate will be working as part of a small multi-functional trade team and will be required to assist other tradesmen if/as needed to accomplish contract required work.
  • Perform work required for the repair, maintenance, installation and modernization of electrical systems for site building's equipment.
  • Perform inspections and prepares written reports.
  • Be responsible for facility custodianship of work area and management of tools, equipment and spare parts for the HVAC operation.
  • Take initiative to analyze a situation and to make frequent technical decisions based on specifications, safety, and governing codes.
  • Will be required to prepare instructional material and conduct instruction to subcontractors.
  • Perform additional duties and projects as assigned.

Minimum Acceptable Experience and Qualification Levels:

  • Ten (10) years HVAC experience in operations and maintenance services or rated as Journeyman or higher.
  • Must have relevant, or closely related experience, with large water chiller systems, cooling towers, CBRNE filter systems, smoke evacuation systems, CO2 scrubbing systems, automated intake louvers and screens, Direct Digital Control (DDC) systems, and calibrating Building automation sensors.

Education:

  • A high school diploma or GED and successful completion of an Apprentice program.

Expected Skills and Competencies:

  • Work well as part of a team and independently and can handle issues with tact and diplomacy.
  • Knowledge of applicable US Codes and acceptable trade practices.
  • Knowledge and experience regarding occupational hazards of the HVAC trade, related safety precautions and considerable skill required for the installation, maintenance and repair of HVAC systems and equipment.
  • Understanding of Variable Frequency Drives (VFD)
  • Good organizational, time management, and communication skills with the ability to exercise sound judgment and make independent decisions.
  • Cross-cultural sensitivity with an international perspective.
  • Computer skills, specifically in Microsoft Word and Excel.

Preferred:

  • HVAC AA/AS degree from a two-year college and/or equivalent field experience.
  • Knowledge in the discipline of operations and maintenance projects in an international environment preferred.
  • Experience working with SOW, electrical diagrams and blueprints.

Language Requirement:

  • Must be fluent in speaking, reading, and writing English
  • Must have excellent oral and written communication skills sufficient to effectively communicate with employees, management, and the client.

Professional Licenses & Certifications:

  • Current Universal EPA license

Other Requirements:

  • Candidate must possess a valid passport of home country with a minimum of 12 months remaining to expiration date.  If not currently a resident of Japan
  • Will be expected to obtain a company-sponsored Japanese Work Visa if not currently a resident of Japan
  • Position requires the applicant to drive in the performance of work duties.  Applicant must be able to obtain and maintain a Japanese Driver License and be able to operate a Company provided motor vehicle on MCAS Iwakuni.
  • Transportation is not provided to locally hired personnel for the purpose of commute to and from the workplace.  Non-locally hired are expected to obtain and maintain the legal ability to operate a Company provided vehicle both on and off the installation for the purpose of commute and/or on-site transportation.  Those unable to obtain and maintain the legal means to operate a motor vehicle in Japan or aboard the installation will be responsible for their own transportation for all purposes.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization.
