Purpose and Impact:

Systems Engineer – Amentum (Top Secret Required)
 

Amentum is seeking a Top‑Secret cleared Systems Engineer to join a high‑impact team dedicated to accelerating operations through data innovation and advanced analytical insights. This mission‑driven organization leverages agile practices to deliver enhanced reporting, global search capabilities, and improved task management—supporting national intelligence priorities while ensuring the protection of sensitive data, sources, and methods.

In this role, you will help lead large‑scale data analysis efforts and contribute to the design and delivery of both on‑premises and cloud‑based applications. As a Systems Engineer, you will provide hands‑on support for daily network operations, including evaluating system utilization, monitoring performance, and serving as a primary responder for operational issues and system anomalies.

You will troubleshoot across physical and logical layers of the network—working with measurement hardware, diagnostics tools, communication protocols, and system components to identify, isolate, and resolve issues. This position also performs essential systems management and integration functions, ensuring all systems remain current with approved patches, aligned with security requirements, and optimized for mission success.

Additional responsibilities include supporting certification and accreditation activities, developing SOPs and quick‑reference guides, and advising leadership on technology investments related to processing, storage, data access, and application development. You will also help evaluate the feasibility of future projects, contributing technical insight that shapes long‑term planning and modernization.

Work Schedule:

  • 5 Days a week M-F – 8 hour days with a 30min lunch
  • Location – Vienna VA

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Supervise, coordinate and/or design, develop and perform additions and changes to network hardware, infrastructure server environments, and operating systems, and attached devices, including investigation, analysis, recommendation, configuration, installation, and testing of new network hardware and software. Provide direct support in the day-to-day operations on network hardware and operating systems including the evaluation of system utilization, monitoring response time and primary support for detection and correction of operational problems. Troubleshoot the physical level of the network, working with network measurement hardware and software, as well as physical checking and testing of hardware devices at the logical level working with communication protocols.
  • Participate in planning design, technical review and implementation for new network infrastructure hardware and network operating systems for voice and data communication networks. Perform systems management and integration functions. Exhibiting proficiency with virtualization technologies and network administration. Maintain network infrastructure standards including network communication protocols such as TCP/IP. Provide technical consultation, training and support for IT staff as designated by the government. Diagnose and resolve complex communication problems. Perform systems management and integration functions. Responsible for design, deployment, evaluating, testing, certification, patching, addressing interoperability issues, not only of the base storage & backup system, but for all features, components, and application dependencies.
  • Ensure systems are current with approved patches and assists with certification and system accreditation tasks, composes SOPs, and Quick Reference guides for users. Provides top-level technical expertise responsible for design and development of a client/server environment. Develops strategy of client/server system and the design infrastructure necessary to support that strategy. Advise on selection of technological purchases with regards to processing, data storage, data access, and applications development. Sets standards for the client/server relational database structure for the organization. Advises of feasibility of potential future projects to management. Possesses and applies comprehensive knowledge across key tasks and high impact assignments. Plans and leads major technology assignments. Evaluates performance results and recommends major changes affecting short-term project growth and success. Functions as a technical expert across multiple project assignments. May supervise others.

Minimum Requirements (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities):

  • Strong Linux skills
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience collectively with the following:
  • Hardware and network designs for large-scale enterprise applications such as but not limited to, cloud service providers, network design and implementation, datacenter experience, network/systems administration, domain administration, virtualization platforms, SaaS, PaaS. 
  • Implementing and maintaining security best practices, creating and maintaining documentation for architecture, configuration and processes.
  • Establishing and maintaining monitoring and alerting systems for cloud and on-premises resources
  • Optimizing on-premises and cloud infrastructure for cost efficiency and performance
  • Troubleshooting and resolving issues related to performance and availability
  • Troubleshooting and problem solving
  • As an individual consultant or a team leader
  • Software development
  • Scripting and programming for automation
  • Monitoring large enterprise production applications
  • Troubleshooting production applications
  • Performance tuning and fault finding
  • Design consulting, platform management, and capacity planning

Security Clearance Required:

  • TS with SCI eligibility

Minimum Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or other related analytical, scientific, or technical discipline.
  • In absence of degree, additional years of experience may be substituted for educational requirements

Minimum Years of Experience:

  • 8

Required Certifications:

  • AWS Certifications preferred

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Scripting (Python, PowerShell, JSON, yml)
  • Microsoft Endpoint for Defender
  • Anti-virus solutions
  • Log Management· SSH
  • Cross Domain Systems to include Everfox or Forcepoint
  • Networking
  • Splunk monitoring, triggers, dashboards
  • Experience with JIRA for development of requests, setting up triggers and SLAs, tracking of customer requests, reporting issues, requests for information, sprint planning and reviews, and tracking backlog items
  • Experience with Confluence for reporting, planning, documenting user processes, storing internal system configurations, publishing roadmaps for executive management and outside stakeholders

Compensation Details:

US:$150,000 - $155,000
