Amentum is seeking a Telephone System Installer/ Technician to support a unique US Navy program on the island of Diego Garcia. The Telephone System Installer/ Technician is responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing telecommunications systems and equipment. The position requires experience with telephone systems, structured cabling, VoIP technologies, and telecommunications infrastructure while ensuring compliance with industry and safety standards.
Job Responsibilities:
- Install, configure, and maintain telephone systems, cables, and telecommunications equipment.
- Troubleshoot and repair telephone lines, communication systems, and network connectivity issues.
- Perform system testing, diagnose faults, and verify equipment operates within specifications.
- Conduct preventive maintenance and inspections to minimize equipment failures.
- Install new telephone lines, structured cabling, wiring, handsets, modems, and related devices.
- Route and terminate cabling to exchange equipment and terminal outlets.
- Maintain accurate records of installations, repairs, maintenance activities, and equipment inventory.
- Respond to service requests and complete installations, upgrades, and repairs in a timely manner.
- Collaborate with contractors and technical teams on telecommunications infrastructure projects.
- Train users on telecommunications equipment and system operation as needed.
- Ensure compliance with applicable industry, military, and safety standards.
- Stay current with emerging telecommunications technologies and best practices.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned that are consistent with the nature and level of the position.
Minimum RequirementsRequired Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 2-4 years of hands on experience installing, repairing, and maintaining telecommunications systems.
- Experience with telephone switching systems and VoIP technologies.
- Proficiency in cabling, wiring, and telecommunications troubleshooting techniques.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, and technical schematics.
- Problem solving and analytical skills.
- Great communication and customer service.
- Proficiency with computers and telecommunications testing equipment.
- Must be in possession of a valid passport and be able to travel internationally.
- Passport must be valid for a minimum of one (1) year or more at the time of hiring.
- Ability to obtain country-specific visas per the U.S. Department of State Foreign Clearance Guide.
- Ability to successfully pass contract medical requirements and maintain compliance throughout the duration of deployment.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization.
- Must read, speak, and comprehend English to the extent that they can perform the contract requirements and comply with installation emergency procedures.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior experience working in an austere OCONUS (Outside the Continental United States) environment with a multi-national workforce
- A valid driver’s license to legally operate a motor vehicle. Valid country driver’s license. and passport.
- Industry certifications such as ComTIA Network+, Cisco Certified Network Associate, or equivalent telecommunications certifications.
- Familiarity with modern telephone systems and legacy telecommunications technologies.

Working Environment
This position is located on Diego Garcia, British Indian Ocean Territory (BIOT), a remote overseas location supporting U.S. Government operations. Employees may work in office, industrial, warehouse, port, airfield, and outdoor environments and may be exposed to high temperatures, humidity, inclement weather, noise, dust, and uneven terrain. Work schedules may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and extended hours based on operational requirements.
Physical Requirements
Requirements may include prolonged sitting, standing, walking, climbing stairs, lifting up to 25 pounds regularly and 50 pounds occasionally, and working in both indoor and outdoor environments. Must be able to meet all medical, security, and deployment requirements associated with assignment to a remote overseas location.
