Amentum is a Lot 1 delivery partner within the Decommissioning and Nuclear Waste Partners (DNWP) Framework, a major Sellafield programme worth up to £4.6 billion and running for up to 15 years. The framework is focused on safely accelerating decommissioning, remediation and high‑hazard risk reduction across one of the most complex nuclear sites in the world.

Our nuclear team supports the front‑end design, engineering, technical leadership and delivery expertise required across the DNWP portfolio. We are looking for individuals with high‑value expertise from across regulated and comparable sectors to who can work collaboratively, embrace new challenges and contribute to the mission of safely and efficiently delivering Sellafield’s decommissioning and nuclear waste objectives.

About the Opportunity

As a Site Waste Coordinator, you are responsible for overseeing and controlling waste management activities across our decommissioning and demolition programme site operations.. The role requires ensuring that our generated waste is appropriately characterised, processed and packaged and that correct waste streams and disposal routes are consistently applied, while supporting and guiding Project Teams to understand and adhere to these requirements.

You will report directly into the Waste Manager and work closely with the Sellafield, Amentum and our supply chain project and technical teams.  

Employee will be expected to contribute to the delivery of social value in line with the DNWP framework, supporting positive outcomes for local communities. Voluntary engagement is supported, with up to 16 hours per full‑time equivalent allocated.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure all waste management activities comply with site procedures, processes and licence conditions.
  • Provide advice and implement effective waste management solutions to ensure the waste management hierarchy is consistently applied.
  • Support collaborative working with Sellafield, Amentum and supply chain project teams
  • Coordinate the proper handling, packaging, storage, and consignment of all types of waste, including hazardous and non-hazardous materials.
  • Ensure all waste is appropriately packaged, and fill sheets and waste records are maintained.
  • Identify and establish suitable laydown areas for waste management activities.
  • Ensure waste is stored correctly with appropriate and compliant signage in place.
  • Ensure that correct waste streams and disposal routes are available and identify and address any gaps.
  • Liaise with Sellafield waste collections team to arrange and coordinate waste collections.
  • Prepare and maintain comprehensive waste management plans and waste forecasts.
  • Participate in waste audits and walk downs, providing guidance on any non-compliance or improvements.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Minimum of 3+ years’ experience working within a waste management role in a highly regulated industry.
  • Demonstrated awareness of relevant legislation, including Environmental Permitting Regulations and Radioactive Substances Regulations.
  • Strong numerical competence, with the ability to interpret and analyse data accurately.
  • A strong understanding and experience of the decommissioning waste lifecycle.
  • Excellent organisational, time management and coordination skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.
