Accounting Clerk (Intern)

Purpose/Scope

Perform highly repetitive and routine clerical duties within assigned segment of accounting, working in accordance with clearly prescribed procedures and under close supervision.

Responsibilities

Perform all required clerical duties in area of assignment.

~Check and verify data received for completeness and accuracy and notify supervisor of discrepancies.

~Sort, match and process documents in accordance with established procedures.

~Prepare various documents for data entry.

~Perform data entry from data as presented.

~Answer phone, take and relay messages.

~Process incoming and/or send out mail as required.

~Operate typewriter, duplicating equipment, adding machine, calculator and other office equipment. ~View source documents/invoices for accuracy, matches invoices with appropriate supporting documentation, and prepares accounting entries for data input.

~Performs calculations and account reconciliations.

~Uses the general ledger accounting system and other approved automated data processing programs to perform assigned duties.

Minimum Knowledge

High school diploma with commercial, general background and up to 1 year of job-related experience or equivalent. Good written communication skills; working knowledge of word-processing and integrated software applications; organizational skills and ability to perform detail-oriented work are required. Position may require the ability to pass and maintain a Security Clearance.

Work Environment

Typical office environment with no unusual hazards, occasional lifting to 20 pounds, constant sitting while using the computer terminal, constant use of sight abilities while reviewing documents, constant use of speech/hearing abilities for communication, constant mental alertness, must possess planning/organizing skills, and must be able to work under deadlines.

No clearance requirement. Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization.
