Definition: This is the entry and first working level for an aircraft sheet metal specialist. Incumbents at this level work under the instruction of an Aircraft Structural Technician II and the direction of a Lead Technician to perform major aircraft structural repairs and modifications; manufacture new and replacement parts from bulk aviation grade material; layout complex disassembly, repair and reassembly of complete aircraft.

Minimum Qualifications:  Possession of the following certificates:  FAA Airframe Technician’s Certificate and a valid Class-C Driver’s License. One year of documented aerospace/aviation structural work experience may qualify in lieu of certificates.

Knowledge and Abilities: FAA airframe structural maintenance, repair, and modification; structural airframe design; load path transmission; airframe construction methods, techniques and material; material alloy use and strength for new airframe fabrication and construction and repair

of damage and corrosion to aircraft structures utilizing solid and blind fasteners; and corrosion prevention.  Perform structural major repairs to primary and secondary airframe structure and flight control surfaces in accordance with FAA-approved procedures, techniques and practices; fabricate new aircraft structures and parts, assess structural material and installed fasteners and make damage and corrosion repairs; and appropriate use of various alloy material and structural fasteners in the repair of airframe structures.  May perform Confined Space Entry maintenance to include aircraft fuel tank repairs.

** Expect approximately 5%-10%% travel, including overnight stays, to fire bases throughout California**

Salary and Other Compensation:  

The hourly rate for this position is $51.71 per hour.  Factors which may affect starting pay within this range may include [geography/market, skills, education, experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate.
