The Aircraft Inspector monitors and evaluates all maintenance actions to ensure safe and reliable aircraft are provided in accordance with current technical manuals, directives, and instructions applicable to the maintenance program.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Performs In-process inspections required during the performance of maintenance requirements and actions where satisfactory task performance cannot be determined after the task has been completed.
  • Inspects and verifies proper completion and documentation of safety and flight discrepancies.
  • Briefs and debriefs pilots and crewmembers assigned to functional check flights on aircraft.
  • Performs QA reviews and reports, TCTOs, OTIs, and modification proposals.
  • Monitors timelines and applicability of aircraft maintenance technical data and technical library.
  • Enters inspection and evaluation reports into the appropriate QA database.
  • Reviews maintenance source documents, aircraft inspection records, notes recurring discrepancies, or trends and initiates appropriate action.
  • Performs quality management oversight on aircraft maintenance actions to ensure compliance with applicable technical manuals, detects negative trends, develops corrective action plans and ensures completion and satisfactory results. Keeps Leadership abreast of quality of maintenance status and issues.
  • Monitors contract compliance by all maintenance activities through the audit and surveillance requirements as defined in the Quality Assurance Manual.
  • Performs final inspections of all maintenance actions involving safety of flight or requiring certification by an Aircraft Inspector, except ejection seats and canopy systems.
  • Investigates safety incidents and assists in preparation of Engineering Investigation Request, Quality Deficiency Reports, Hazardous Material Reports, Technical Publications Deficiency Reports and Explosive Mishap Reporting as required
  • Reviews applicable maintenance forms and deficiency data to determine discrepancy trends and specific problem areas.
  • Assists in the drafting and development of work instructions, maintenance instructions, local maintenance requirement cards, and routine and continuing correspondence to all work centers detailing maintenance and program procedures and requirements.
  • Assists in preparation of Quality Assurance Monthly Data Requirements List (CDRL's)
  • Assists in preparation of weekly, monthly and quarterly Quality Assurance Control Status Report for inclusion in report to the Program Management Office.
  • Ensures compliance with and monitors all established general and industrial safety rules and regulations as applicable to the contract, facility and job assignment.
  • Assists as directed to ensure safety, security and preservation of government or company owned equipment.
  • Maintains cleanliness of work center.
  • Ensures compliance with Foreign Object Damage (FOD), Hazardous waste, Egress Familiarization, Hydraulic Contamination, Oil Surveillance, and tool control programs
  • May be assigned as subject matter expert (SME) or training instructor as required.
  • Perform all other position related duties as assigned or requested.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Eight (8) or more years general experience in aircraft maintenance
  • Three (3) or more years T-6 aircraft experience
  • Must have current FAA Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) License.
  • Must complete and pass Internal Quality Auditor Certification.
  • Satisfactory completion of U.S. Armed Forces aircraft mechanic and/ or airframe courses and/ or F.A.A. Airframe and power plant technical schools.
  • Ability to meet any government, company licensing, or qualification requirements for the position.
  • In-depth knowledge of Quality Assurance procedures.
  • Thorough knowledge of applicable safety and maintenance manuals.
  • In-depth knowledge of applicable maintenance or technical manuals and publications, technical directives, safety procedures, ground support equipment and special tools.
  • Ability to research, read and interpret drawings.
  • Ability to write with clarity and technical accuracy.
  • Ability to brief and debrief Functional Check Flight pilots in requirements for functional check flights and expected results.
  • Ability to provide own hand tools.
  • Thorough knowledge of applicable contractual performance work requirements.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Current FAA Inspection Authority (IA) certification desired.
