Under the technical guidance of the Government Quality Assurance Specialist(s) (Ammunition Surveillance) (QASAS) or designee, the Ammunition Inspector shall provide inspection services for all assigned ASP locations, ammunition transfer and holding points (ATPs) and load storage areas to include visual (physical) inspections, damage in transit (DIT), receipt inspections (RI) and periodic inspections (PI). Also under the technical guidance of the Government QASAS or designee, the Ammunition Inspector shall assist in the performance of AE logistics, safety functions, tests, readiness inspections and combat load to support supply readiness programs and quality control activities.
Essential Responsibilities:
Visually inspects and classifies conventional and non-standard ammunition to include shells, grenades, pyrotechnics, and mines, together with projectiles such as bullets, shots, and their necessary primers, propellants, fuses and detonators, turned in by using units.
Use of the Munitions History Program (MHP) to input and retrieve data and perform other duties as required to support the mission and contractual requirements.
Verifies nomenclature and lot numbers entered on turn-in document with markings on the ammunition and quantities listed.
Checks safety devices and serviceability.
Recommends disposition for damages or deterioration.
Cleans, repacks, and seals containers of ammunition for storage.
Assists Quality Assurance Specialist, Ammo Surveillance (QASAS) in continuity checks on ammunition, periodic inspections, receipt inspections and initial receipt inspection.
Classifies ammunition as serviceable, condemned for EOD destruction, or demilitarized for delivery to Property Disposal.
Directs and inspects work of military details and 3 to 5 civilians to insure proper inspection, classification, and packing of all turn-ins of ammunition.
Receipt, storage, and issue of ammunition, ammunition components, and ammunition related material.
Receives turn-in from units, unloads trucks, vans, etc.
Inspect vehicles.
Warehouses or stores ammunition by type, class or lot In accordance with regulations.
Conducts inventories.
Performs 100% inspection of all returned residue to ensure it is explosive free.
Observes strict key control procedures.
Mentors and assists with on-the-job training and cross training.
Favorably interacts with internal / external customers.
Performs daily PMCS on all government furnished and/or leased equipment operated.
Supports/Participates in Company Continuous Improvement Process (CIP) and QA Program.
Participates in training and cross-training sessions as required or necessary.
Complies with all Company rules, policies and procedures.
Complies with all safety, environmental & quality standards & applicable COPs / DOPs.
Provides for accountability and proper care of all GFE / CFE.
Assist in overall operation of the ASP.
Performs other duties as required.
Minimum Position Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Must have three (3) years’ experience military or civilian in classification and inspection
of ammunition.
Must have specific knowledge in storage and warehouse functions of an Ammunition
Supply Point.
Must be able to identify all packing material and residue.
Must comply with AMC Drawings.
Must understand and be able to use Technical Manuals, Supply Bulletin, SB 742-1,
Technical Bulletins, MIL-STD.
Must be able to speak, read and write English fluently.
Must possess a valid Louisiana class D driver’s license.
Must be able to obtain a military operator’s permit for each type of vehicle or equipment
required to perform all FDP Activity functions including MHE (forklifts up to 15K).
Must be authorized to work in the US.
Knowledgeable in inspections, classifying ammunition IAW regulations.
Ability to complete paperwork associated with ammunition.
Basic understanding of supply and warehouse operations.
Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands:
Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs with or without accommodation.
Must utilize all proper lifting procedures and practices.
Must wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
Must be able to work at heights.
Must be able to work under pressure and strenuous conditions.
Must be able to meet short suspense dates.
Must be able to conduct work in the out-of-doors area with potential exposure to extreme climatic conditions i.e. extreme temperatures, low humidity, rain and blowing sand and dust.
Must be able to withstand prolonged periods of stooping; climbing; standing; and sitting for long periods of uninterrupted time.
May require shift work.
May be required to work an uncommon tour of duty including nights, weekends, and holidays.
During the usual work period, the worker may be exposed to sounds and noise levels that are distracting and uncomfortable.
