This is a high-priority requirement supporting the SA-SSB IWP and is expected to be challenging to fill due to the specialist skillset required.
While the preferred work location is Canberra, the client is open to considering remote candidates given the niche nature of the role.
A mandatory requirement is demonstrated experience with ship-borne or land-based magazine certification, as this capability is critical to the role. Candidates without relevant magazine certification experience are unlikely to be suitable.
Role: Armaments & Explosive Ordnance (EO) Engineer
Amentum is seeking candidate submissions for an Armaments & Explosive Ordnance (EO) Engineer to support a critical Defence maritime acquisition program.
The successful candidate will provide specialist engineering expertise and technical authority relating to the integration, certification, safety assurance and compliance of armaments and explosive ordnance systems within complex naval platforms. Working within a multidisciplinary engineering environment, the resource will support engineering governance, design assurance, certification and acceptance activities across the capability lifecycle.
A key requirement of this role is demonstrated experience supporting the certification, safety assurance, or integration of ship-borne or land-based explosive ordnance magazines and associated ammunition storage systems.
Key Responsibilities
The resource will be required to:
- Act as the Armaments and Explosive Ordnance Integration Engineering Subject Matter Expert (SME).
- Obtain and exercise Delegated Technical Authority within the scope of the position.
- Conduct technical assessments, design reviews, design acceptance activities and certification of armaments and EO integration engineering outcomes.
- Review and endorse engineering deliverables to ensure compliance with technical, safety, contractual and regulatory requirements.
- Provide specialist engineering advice relating to armaments integration, weapon system interfaces, explosive ordnance considerations, ammunition storage and platform integration.
- Provide engineering assurance for the certification, safety, compliance and integration of ship-borne and land-based explosive ordnance magazines.
- Support hazard identification, risk assessment, and mitigation activities in collaboration with System Safety and Engineering Assurance teams.
- Support engineering governance activities, including requirements management, technical baselines, configuration management, verification and validation and engineering assurance documentation.
- Support maintenance of Authorised Engineering Organisation (AEO) accreditation and compliance requirements.
- Provide technical leadership and mentoring to engineering personnel as required.
Mandatory Requirements
Candidates must possess:
- A degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Mechatronic Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
- Demonstrated experience supporting the certification, safety assurance or integration of ship-borne or land-based explosive ordnance magazines.
- Experience working with armaments, explosive ordnance, weapons systems or related engineering disciplines.
- Experience within Defence acquisition, shipbuilding, maritime sustainment, land systems, ammunition, weapons or other complex Defence engineering programs.
- Experience supporting Navy, Army, CASG, GWEO, shipbuilding or Defence sustainment programs.
- A current NV1 Security Clearance (or higher).
Desirable Requirements
- Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) status or working towards chartership.
- Experience exercising Delegated Technical Authority or equivalent engineering authority responsibilities.
- Experience working within an Authorised Engineering Organisation (AEO).
- Knowledge of Defence explosive ordnance safety, ammunition storage, weapons handling and magazine certification requirements.
