Position Responsibilities: 

  • Contributes to and generally supports efforts relating to Amentum’s SafeUp® Program.  

  • Responsible for coordinating all cargo movements to/from deep field camps and/or South Pole Station. This includes general cargo, science group cargo, passengers, and cargo returning from camps. 

  • Acts as McMurdo Station liaison for field camp resupply, including grantee resupply. 

  • Supports work centers to properly handle all priority, retrograde, and hazardous field camp cargo movements while resolving any outstanding cargo transport issues. 

  • Communicates via radio and/or telephone with the field camp supervisor to coordinate resupply and cargo priorities while also providing updates on all cargo movement issues.  

  • Provides daily cargo priority lists to the Movement Control Center (MCC) for aircraft mission load planning. 

  • Communicates daily with MCC load planners for aircraft mission loads. 

  • Assists with inventories, general organization, and mapping of field camp cargo staged in McMurdo. 

  • Initiates Discrepancy Reports (DISREPS) for all flights with cargo or passenger manifesting discrepancies (field camps). 

  • Collaborates with United States Antarctic Program (USAP) Cargo personnel, fixed-wing coordinators, and MCC to overcome any transportation, cargo, or hazardous material issues. 

  • Forwards field camp project “call forward” requests to the MCC supervisor for processing. 

  • Research field camp shipping number discrepancies in the cargo tracking software system and corrects labeling errors. 

  • Assists with science cargo processing, as required. 

  • Complies with all ASC Environmental, Safety and Health (ESH), Waste Management and Quality Assurance requirements, goals, policies, and procedures. 

  • Performs other duties as required.  

 

Required Education, Experience, Certificates and Licenses: 

  • High School diploma or GED 

  • Two years of experience in a combination of the following: customer service, administrative duties, reporting, and/or data management. 

 

Expected Skills and Competencies: 

  • Proficiency with various computer programs including Microsoft Office software and email systems. 

  • Strong organizational and data management skills. 

 

Preferred: 

  • One year of experience in planning and organizing remote cargo/supply movements, and/or logistics planning, or one summer season in a position within Transportation and Logistics.  

  • Familiarity with aircraft load planning and regulations governing transportation of hazardous materials. 

 

Physical and/or Other Requirements

  • Willingness and ability to deploy to Antarctica for extended periods  

  • Successful completion of Medical and Dental examinations required by the NSF for deployment to Antarctica 

  • Successful completion of drug screening and background check required by employer 

  • Successful completion of Federal Background Check required by the NSF 

  • Must be willing and able to lift and move items, parts, assemblies, and equipment up to the safety regulation maximum as required by the position.  

  • Must be willing and able to perform physical activities including heavy lifting, climbing in and out of equipment, crawling, and working outdoors in extreme cold as required by the position.  

  • Must participate in community programs, such as “house-mouse” (chores), “daisy-picking” (cleaning-up around the station), recycling efforts & safety objectives.  

  • Valid Driver’s License issued in the United States 

  • No clearance requirement but the contract and/or the site requires US Citizenship to be approved for access. (includes NACI / T1, MRPT, CAC):  Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization. Note: US Citizenship is required for facility credentials/authorization at this work location.
