The Scientist job family is responsible for 1) performing basic scientific analyses and calculations and 2) preparing specifications, reports and data tables. Under the direction of the Analytical Manager or Chemist Supervisor, may perform technical assignments of moderate complexity within approved scientific schedules and budgets. May coordinate technical and administrative activities with employees in other disciplines and other departments participating on an assigned project. May assist in the training and evaluation of assigned scientific personnel. This position may require the candidate to be on call and occasionally working back shifts, weekends, and/or holidays.

This position shall be performed under the day-to-day direction, control, and supervision of WTCC

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES/TASKS

  • Use and maintain analytical instruments that may include: Benchtop Meter with probes, Ion Chromatograph, Microwave digester, Fusion Furnace, ICP-OES, ICP-MS, Carbon Analyzer, Mercury Analyzer, Titrator, Radiochemistry counting and separations method equipment.

  • Perform subject matter expert duties on one or more technology areas including method optimization, performing training and technical assistance to technical and scientific personnel.

  • Perform work within the bounds of procedures and defined work control processes with the utmost concern for the safety of self and other employees.

  • Apply instruction from technical and quality documents to physically performed actions and procedure development.

  • Design and execute investigative studies to assist Plant Engineering

  • Review and evaluate sample and quality results for reporting and trending.

  • Maintain proper scientific files and records

  • Support and perform sample and data management activities

  • Build productive relationships within Operations and with external work groups

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Education: Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemistry or related scientific discipline from a four (4) year accredited college or university.

Appropriate training and experience commensurate with the responsibilities of the position may be considered in lieu of a degree.

Experience: 5+ years of experience in one or more areas of expertise including wet chemistry, elemental chemistry, or radiochemistry obtained through a combination of education and working in an environmental, research, process control, or radiological laboratory.  Desired experience includes developing analytical methods for use in radiological fume hoods, working knowledge of process control techniques, supporting continuous process operations, and familiarity with regulatory requirements as applied to laboratory operations. 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

(EFNM-LAB) Exposed Field Non-Manual – Laboratory Specialist/Chemist

Performs desk work, including writing, computer workstation processes and telephone operations.  Oversees field activities through inspections, testing and equipment operations, which requires walking, standing, bending, and turning along with wearing personal protective equipment and carrying measuring tools.  Occasional loading, transport, and unloading of tools and/or supplies, equipment and compresses gas cylinders specific to activity.  Prepares laboratory standards and analytical equipment within approved technical procedures or activity level work control document boundaries.  Operate and maintain laboratory equipment within the scope of approved procedures or activity level documents.

This position is located at the Construction Site (22 miles north of Richland) and works a 4 x 10 schedule, M-Th, 6:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Must be authorized to work and remain in the United States without Amentum visa sponsorship now or in the future.

Must be able to complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check which includes verification of employment and education.

Must be able to obtain a Department of Energy badge for access to the Hanford Site. (Even if teleworking, must still be able to comply with security requirements to obtain a badge.)

Compensation Details:

$78,227.15 - $117,732.32
