Amentum is seeking a highly skilled CANES / Afloat Network Technician to join our team in Rota, Spain, supporting the Forward Deployed Regional Maintenance Center (FDRMC). This role offers an exciting opportunity to directly support the operational readiness of forward-deployed U.S. Navy forces by maintaining and securing critical afloat network infrastructure. Essential Responsibilities:
Provide Fleet Technical Assistance (FTA) to troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve issues across afloat network systems and infrastructure
Perform installation, maintenance, testing, and repair of CANES and associated network, server, and cybersecurity systems
Support on-site (OS) and distant support (DS) for U.S. Navy ships and shore-based OCONUS activities
Administer and maintain systems including WSUS, HBSS, VMware environments, and CISCO switching/routing devices
Conduct system diagnostics, corrective maintenance, upgrades, and patch management across classified and unclassified networks
Support System/Equipment Assessments (e.g., TSRA, INSURV, ICMP, and other readiness evaluations)
Assist with logistics support, including validation of Allowance Parts Lists (APLs) and identification of required hardware/software
Ensure compliance with cybersecurity policies, system hardening requirements, and COMSEC procedures
Provide on-the-job training (OJT) and technical guidance to ship’s force personnel
Document actions and findings using Navy systems (e.g., MFOM/NMD, FTS) and prepare formal reports/debriefs in accordance with JFMM
Recommend improvements to technical documentation, system configurations, and processes
Support Engineering Technical Branch (ETB) efforts, including system analysis and troubleshooting of complex network issues
Travel as required to support forward-deployed naval forces
Minimum Requirements:
Demonstrated experience in installation, maintenance, testing, and repair of the following U.S. Navy systems:
WSUS
HBSS
VMware server variants
CISCO switching and routing devices
CANES
Experience with at least six (6) of the following systems: FAS, NTCSS, CENTRIXS, SMS, MSSQL Server, Linux Red Hat Enterprise Server, McAfee HIPS, Alcatel switches, SUN server systems, IBM Blade Servers, HP servers, COMPOSE
Strong knowledge of automated information systems, network architecture, and cybersecurity principles
Familiarity with COMSEC policies and procedures
Ability to perform independent troubleshooting and system administration at a journeyman level
Experience working with enterprise-level network environments in an operational setting
Ability to interpret and apply technical documentation, system configurations, and network diagrams
Willingness and ability to travel frequently, including OCONUS and shipboard environments
Ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret security clearance
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Preferred Qualifications (not required):
Experience supporting CANES in afloat or deployed environments
Background working on U.S. Navy surface or submarine network architectures
Experience with cybersecurity compliance, system hardening, and patch management (e.g., scan-patch-scan methodologies)
Familiarity with NAVSEA Standard Items and Joint Fleet Maintenance Manual (JFMM) processes
Prior experience providing Fleet Technical Assistance (FTA) or working at a Regional Maintenance Center (RMC)
Experience administering Windows and Linux server environments in DoD networks
Relevant industry certifications (e.g., Security+, CISSP, CCNA/CCNP, VMware certifications)
Active or recently held Top Secret clearance
Experience working in a forward-deployed or OCONUS operational environment, supporting naval forces in high-tempo, mission-critical settings
