Job Title:     Crane Electrician

Job Summary

Crane Electricians read, interpret drawings, blueprints, schematics, and electrical code specifications to determine layout of WHE/MHE electrical equipment installations. Install, examine, replace, or repair electrical wiring, receptacles, switch boxes, conduit, feeders, co-axial cable assemblies, lighting fixtures, and other electrical components. Tests electrical and electronic equipment and components for continuity, current, voltage, and resistance.  Maintains, repairs, tests, and installs alternating current (AC) and direct current (DC) electrical motors, generators, alternators, and electrical control systems and other related devices.  Conducts preventative maintenance in accordance with P-307 requirements. The Crane Electrician may also install WHE/MHE instrumentation and related devices.  Installs conduit using threading, cutting, and bending equipment and tools. Replaces defective circuit breakers, switches, fuses, and other electrical wiring devices.  Uses a variety of electrician’s hand tools, testing, and measuring instruments.  May perform other related duties.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School graduate or equivalent
  • Must be able to work at heights up to 150 feet, including work from mechanical lifting devices.
  • Minimum two (2) years of ‘hands-on’ experience at the electrical journeyman-level with experience in either weight handling equipment, material handling equipment or industrial equipment fields.
  • Must have the ability to troubleshoot using schematic approach and repair AC and DC electrical control systems including motors, motor controls, transformers, switchgear, electrical panels, and other associated equipment.
  • Must successfully complete NAVFAC P307 WHE/MHE Electrician Course and General Crane Safety Course within 180 days of employment.
  • Must complete eight (8) hours of National Electrical Code Safety training annually.
  • Must become CPR-certified by nationally recognized organization such as American Red Cross or American Heart Association.
  • Must possess standard tools associated with the electrical trade.
  • Must possess a valid state driver’s license
  • Must have and wear hard-toed safety shoes that meet ASTM F2413-05 standards.
  • Successful candidate will be subject to a government security investigation and must continually meet eligibility requirements for access to all areas of Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay.

Compensation Details:
