About the Opportunity

Hub 5 covers the Simulant Testing and Evaluation Facility (STEF) for the wider EU Project and the trial laboratory at the University of Bristol (UoB). These facilities will provide an environment to test the major plant items and Containment suites for the main PP&E Designs.

The Engineering Manager is responsible for the coordination, implementation and performance of engineering activities for the UoB & STEF designs. They will work with the Project Manager and maintain a close working relationship with the PP&E Design HUB PEMs and Suppliers to ensure the ongoing PP&E designs are shared and included into the STEF. They will manage the initial and detailed designs of both areas including supporting services, via a selected supplier and designer, to ensure the facilities are able to meet client demands and first of a kind output.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the Engineering Point of Contact for all parties relating to UoB and STEF

  • Draft the UoB Trial Scope / Specification and once approved produce the technical specifications for the main plant items in collaboration with the Client and PP&E PEMs.

  • Work with the HUB Designers to ensure that UoB trial equipment designs and manufacture meet the clients and trials requirements

  • Assist the UoB personnel in commissioning and setting to work the UoB trial equipment

  • Liaise with and manage the Client stakeholder(s) to ensure the trials output meets the both the client and Project demands.

  • Monitor and provide regular updates on the progress of all activities from design to trials to the HUB PM.

  • Providing management and guidance to the Simulant Testing and Evaluation Facility (STEF) suppliers

  • Support the timely communication of design information from the Design Hubs into the STEF design

  • Assist with the establishment and implementation of project manpower needs and coordinate technical activities among disciplines.

  • Identify and ensures compliance with all statutory and licensing requirements.

  • Compile lists from each discipline to develop master document list for the Hub.

  • Work with project stakeholders to develop subcontract and work package descriptions that are consistent with the contracting plan for the STEF project.

  • Coordinate development of work-hour estimates and transfer information to Project Controls for preparation of engineering cost estimate in collaboration with the HUB PM.

  • Cooperate with other departments in the company participating on the project.

  • Schedule and coordinates meetings between Project Engineering, the client and other outside groups.

  • Keep project stakeholders advised of project progress, performance with attention to delays, adverse trends, errors and omissions.

  • Produce & maintain proper documentation of meetings, agreements, conversations, etc. that affect the conduct of the project.

  • Coordinate the customers engineering comments, approvals and requests with the functional activities of all disciplines.

  • Coordinate Independent Engineering Design Reviews by discipline engineering management alongside the PP&E Senior PEM.

  • Manage Design change using the Project process and inform design suppliers of any required changes / LFE ensure full audit trail.

  • Attend the trials sites and client sites as required to meet schedule and testing dates.

Here's What You'll Need

  • Proactive mentality to ensure projects are driven at pace and capability to problem solve

  • Hold a formal qualification in a relevant Engineering discipline

  • Engineering Management experience leading suppliers’ teams

  • Experience in setting up, running and reporting or Engineering trials.

  • Proven experience within a highly regulated construction sector (including commissioning)

  • Sound understanding of CDM regulations

  • Understanding of Building Services / Mechanical & Electrical disciplines and outputs

  • Awareness of NEC Contracts and RIBA processes is Preferred.

  • Currently hold SC or prepared to go through the SC process
