Environmental Manager - Diego Garcia
Amentum, a global leader in advanced engineering, technical, and professional services serving the US government, allies and critical infrastructure sectors, is seeking an Environmental Manager to support a government contract based on the island of Diego Garcia.
PURPOSE / SCOPE
The Environmental Manager primary duty and responsibility is to ensure operations adhere to the goals and policies of the Environmental Management System and other specified Sustainability requirements affecting this contract. The Environmental Manager shall develop, implement and monitor environmental strategies, policies and programs that promote sustainable development and examine the contract activities to establish where improvements can be made and ensure compliance with environmental legislation.
Duties will include supervision and performance of environmentally focused support services, investigations, and analyses, ensuring successful operation and execution while ensuring adherence to the goals and policies of the Environmental Management System and other specified sustainability requirements affecting contract. The Environmental Manager will develop, implement and monitor environmental strategies, policies and programs that promote sustainable development while examining contract activities related. Will perform duties to ensure compliance with Performance Work Statement (PWS) and Amentum ISO 9001 Quality Management System (QMS) including the Installation’s Environmental Management System (EMS) goals and policy, Diego Garcia Environmental Final Governing Standards and B.I.O.T. environmental requirements all in compliance with all applicable Federal, Host Nation, Diego Garcia Environmental Final Governing Standards and B.I.O.T. regulations, base-wide instructions, and standards. All environmental protection matters shall be coordinated with the USG representative.
- Manage staff and resources for the environmental management function.
- Develop and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for the overall effective environmental management program to support the initiatives and directives of the customer.
- Oversee the annual compliant self-assessment.
- Ensure compliance with permits, regulatory standards and standard management practices including but not limited to sample collection, monitoring, records keeping, report preparation, training, inspections, data reporting, etc. Review and assess impacts of existing and proposed regulations. Develop procedures to meet new and changing regulations.
- Establish where improvements can be made and ensure compliance with environmental legislation.
- Administer on-site and off-site hazardous waste activities.
- Oversee the tracking and reporting for Program and Corporate as required.
- Direct the development of training, environmental outreach, and pollution prevention programs.
- Other duties as assigned
The Environmental Manager will be available within 30 minutes to meet with Government personnel and / or Program leadership as required 24 hours/day, 7 days/week in this role.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Sanitary Engineering, Civil Engineering, or Chemistry based on a four-year course of study from a U.S. or United Kingdom (U.K.) accredited college or university
- At least ten (10) years of experience in job-related responsibilities on a government contract or at a military installation including hazardous waste operations; medical waste management; and hazardous spill prevention, response, and cleanup , or work in a closely related field, gaining exposure to the environmental requirements of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT), and other regulatory agencies
- Knowledge of environmental regulations and federal laws and policy that are applicable to operations similar to those of this contract
- Three years’ experience in a supervisory role in an austere OCONUS environment with a multi-national workforce
- Must be familiar with current global, US, Program and PWS requirements such as EPA, DOT and other regulatory agencies
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Ability to obtain and maintain a US passport and driver's license throughout employment in this role
- Ability to successfully pass PACOM medical requirements and maintain requirements for duration of deployment
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret US Government Clearance. Note: US Citizenship is required to obtain a Secret Clearance
WORK ENVIRONMENT, PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Able to stand for long periods of time such as eight (8) to ten (10) hours, bend, kneel, and reach to store/retrieve supplies
- Able to lift, carry, and push supplies and boxes up to 50 pounds
- Living and working conditions at the assignment location could be remote and uncomfortable
- Long hours, exposure to weather and hazardous conditions
- May also work in a typical office environment
