About the Opportunity

Hinkley Point C (HPC) is the first new nuclear power station to be built in the UK in over 20 years, HPCs two EPR reactors will be capable of generating 3.26GW of secure, low carbon electricity for 60 years, enough electricity to power around 6 million homes. In addition to the projects ‘clean energy’ benefits, HPC will create thousands of jobs and bring lasting benefits to the UK economy.
Amentum are currently looking to recruit a Fire Safety & DSEAR Assessor who will support on fire safety matters to the Commissioning programme (NNB GenCo), Support and promote the development of a positive fire safety culture and help support facilitate the coordination of fire safety amongst the many other contractors working on the project and at its Associated Development Sites. Key responsibilities will be:
- Assisting in both establishment and transition into the operational stations fire safety governance arrangements, and policies which align with applicable regulatory requirements, loss control objectives and business needs
- Support the management of the CommOps fire safety DSEAR arrangements, including the development of CommOps DSEAR Risk Assessments, and ensuring compliance with Client, Principal Designers and Principal Contractor standards
- Support the developing an operational readiness strategy which provides clarity and direction to project stakeholders on what fire safety arrangements will be implemented to support safe start up in operations and facilitate legislative compliance
- Support the developing an implementation plan which outlines the specific fire safety arrangements which will be implemented by each project milestone up to COD
- Implementing a Fire Hazard Analyses (FHA) and Fire Risk Assessment (FRA) with inputs from relevant HPC project Subject Matter Experts (SMEs)
- Support the facilitation and administration of the Fire Safety and Emergency Preparedness Management Systems and Fire Safety Audit and Assurance
- Contribute to the implementation of the Commissioning fire safety strategy for Commissionin/Pre Operation/Maintenance areas
- Ensure the Fire Health and Safety Standards of the HPC project are consistently met while championing the HPC Way including its pillars in all activities undertaken
- Providing subject matter input to the Nuclear Skills Alliance (NSA) Industrial and Fire Safety Training Teams to ensure that the organisation for the operational site is adequately trained on fire safety topics and processes
- Developing and maintaining an effective collaborative working relationship with the HPC construction and the Wider EDF Fire Safety Teams
- Assisting in the development and implementation of a combustible materials hazard identification (CMHI) programme after handover from Construction and in assisting in the development of an information management strategy for fire protection documentation and records
- Providing fire safety advice from an operational station’s perspective to teams designing facilities and equipment and supporting the creation a strong fire safety culture for the operational site
Qualifications, Skills & Experience
- Detailed understanding of Fire Safety Legislation (e.g. Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 (“the Fire Safety Order”), Fire Safety Act 2021, Fire Safety (England) Regulations 2022) and codes of practice and the ability to interpret applicability to a range of different operating conditions and contexts
- You should hold an appropriate qualification, e.g., H&S Diploma (NEBOSH) and accreditation to (or working towards) one of the Fire Risk Assessor National Register (i.e. IFSM, IFE, FRACS). Including ComEx qualification (Foundation Plus ExF+ or Responsible Persons Ex14)
- Previous experience overseeing the development and implementation of Fire Safety Management Arrangements (e.g. Industrial and Fire Safety Management System and supporting organisation) within an industrial or similar setting
- Previous experience of implementing of DSEAR arrangements and support delivering teams in DSEAR compliance Experience of coordinating DSEAR activities
- Experience carrying out Fire Risk Assessment (FRAs) within a range of different commissioning and operating environments
- Experience in developing Fire Emergency Response Plans (FERPs) and associated documentation
- Ability to communicate clearly at all levels of the organisation, both verbally and through written reports
- Minimum Level 4 Fire Safety Qualification with an approved professional body i.e. Institute of Fire Engineers (IFE).
- Minimum of 2 years' experience within large scale complex construction or nuclear licence sites environments.
- Minimum of 2 years' experience within DSEAR hazards and managements processes.
- Demonstrates a knowledge and understanding of the principles and practices of Fire Safety.
- Competent in using Microsoft applications and an aptitude to learn new software packages.
- CompEx Foundation Plus (ExF+).
