Purpose and Scope:
The Utility Terrain Vehicles (UTV) Technician will inspect, diagnose, analyze, troubleshoot, and repair malfunctions. Focusing on engines, drivetrain, suspension, tires, electrical systems, and routine maintenance to ensure serviceability. Assist in the sustainment of the full range of United States Air Forces in Europe (USAFE) Global Prepositioned Materiel Services (GPMS) Force Protection equipment. Ensures compliance with Performance Work Statement (PWS) and 9001:2015 Quality Management System (QMS).
Essential Responsibilities:
- Conduct inventory and maintain the serviceability of all assigned equipment.
- Performs preventive maintenance actions, reconstitution, and corrective maintenance as needed.
- Inspects diagnoses and isolates vehicle and equipment malfunctions; troubleshoots, traces, and locates defects and/or causes of mechanical problems to determine type and extent of necessary repairs.
- Troubleshooting and repair of CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission) systems, fuel injection (EFI), and braking systems.
- Use specialized tools, such as pullers, calipers, multimeters EFI software, and test equipment to troubleshoot vehicle systems.
- Replaces and/or repairs engines, radiators, drivetrain, suspension, tires, winch, fuel, electrical and hydraulic systems.
- Perform engine tune-ups, oil changes, fluid checks, tire changes, batteries replacement, and diagnoses tread wear.
- Interprets and applies technical design drawings and specifications.
- Dispose of waste materials per regulations and policies/procedures.
- Stay abreast of latest technology and installation procedures
- Identifies and orders replacement parts and equipment.
- Removes, replaces, adjusts, or cleans defective parts or components
- Flushes radiators and replaces anti-freeze solutions.
- Ensures repairs of all assigned vehicles and equipment are safe and dependable
- Utilizes appropriate procedures in accordance with manufacturer's specification in armoring vehicles as directed.
- Maintain work environments that are safe, clean, sanitary, healthy, and ensure working facilities and areas present a professional atmosphere.
- Prepares assets for air/sea/road haul shipments IAW Technical Orders, Manuals, Checklist, Maintenance Action Sheets and UTC Configuration listings.
- Ensure proper utilization and safeguarding of all government and contractor provided property (including facilities, equipment tools, information, and Data).
- Participate in safety inspections, audits, and risk assessments.
- Complies with all PWS, SOP, WI, LOI, USAF instructions and other guidance.
- Use proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) according to prescribed procedures and as required for task being performed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Position Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
- High school diploma, technical school, apprenticeship, trade school graduate or equivalent required.
- Technical certifications or degrees in powersports technology or related fields are preferred.
- Two (2) to five (5) years of proven experience with ATVs/UTVs or similar powersports equipment is required.
- Knowledge of the operating systems used in motor vehicles and equipment.
- Proficient with hand tools and diagnostic equipment.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to receive constructive criticism and feedback when necessary.
- Must be proficient in using personal computers and Windows Operating System and Microsoft Office to include, as a minimum, PowerPoint, Excel, and Word programs.
- Knowledge of computer, electrical, transistorized, and other non-mechanical systems and how they tie-in with and affect the operation of mechanical systems.
- Considerable knowledge of the standard tools, equipment, test procedures and practices used in the repair and preventative maintenance of vehicles.
- Ability to research and understand technical data, wiring, vacuum, air and hydraulic diagrams associated with the vehicle maintenance field.
- Ability to read English technical manuals, references, and specifications.
- Ability to write routine in English correspondences, maintenance logs and order forms.
- Ability to operate a forklift is preferred.
Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands:
Work is performed in a shop environment that is moderately lighted, heated, and ventilated, is exposed to disagreeable fumes and to cuts and bruises from using tools in close placed and hazards of moving vehicles such as forklifts and sweepers in shop area. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to walk; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. The employee is occasionally required to squat, kneel, stoop, bend, lay down, twist, climb, balance, stand, and sit to install equipment in a physically demanding environment. Frequently lifts items weighing 40-45 pounds and occasionally more than 50 pounds. The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, extreme heat, and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; outside weather conditions; extreme cold; and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud, or may include unsafe conditions, questioning nonstandard operations or environmental factors that may involve unmitigated hazards, and providing feedback to supervisors and managers on all safety issues.
